1. Coffee
It gets us through late night cram-sessions, early morning classes, and everything in between. From k-cups to loose beans to gift cards, there is a form perfect for everyone on your list, and whatever you choose will be greatly appreciated by your sleepy student.
2. Groceries
Allow your student a nice change from eating Ramen five days a week and surprise them with a gift card to their local grocery store.
3. Restaurant Gift Cards
If you’re concerned that the grocery store gift card will, in fact, be spent on copious amounts of Ramen or Hot Pockets, opt for restaurants instead. Show your student you care, treat them to a night out with a paid-for dinner to their favorite place.
4. Gas Cards
If cars are allowed on campus, gas cards are a great option that will allow your student the freedom to come home, go on a mini-adventure, or simply to save the money that would have been spent on gas to purchase something else they need or want.
5. Alcohol
This gift may be controversial, but if your student is of age, a nice bottle of wine, as opposed to their usual boxed variety, could be just what they need to get them through a rough period of exams... or Mondays.
6. Appliances
Chances are, if your college student is living in an apartment, they don’t have many of the costly necessities of a household. Items such as pots, pans, skillets, knives, toasters, crock pots, and Keurigs are all great choices that, unless given to them, students will usually do without or will purchase the cheapest (and crappiest) version.
7. Cleaning Supplies
This item might be unconventional, but it would be greatly appreciated. Save your student lots of money and fill a laundry basket with anything from mops, brooms, and dustpans to Clorox wipes
8. Facials/Spa Days/Massages/Etc.
Treat your stressed out student to a much needed pamper session after finals season. Let a masseuse work away their tension with a massage, help reduce their final-induced breakout with a facial, or let them sweat out their worries in a sauna. No matter what option you choose, you’re sure to provide some much-needed relief.
9. Personal Time/A Mini Vacation
While tangible items are great, the thing most college students want the most is time off from school and the chance to catch up with their friends and family. Give a gift to yourself as well as someone else, and plan a weekend getaway, shopping spree, or even just a dinner date for you and the person on your list. The time spent together will mean more to them than you could ever know, and you’ll both cherish the memories made.
10. Money
OK, so your younger self wanted this too, but if all else fails, money is always, always, always needed and appreciated. So, if you just aren’t sure what restaurant to choose, which gas station is available, or what brand of coffee will be preferred, save yourself the trouble, wrap a few bills up or sign a check, and let your student choose their own perfect gift.
