Give In To The Holiday Cheer

Stop fighting the urge to celebrate Christmas a little early

So, the winter weather came early this year, and some are blaming this on early Christmas celebration.

I hear this argument but I am not sure why so many people are complaining about it.

Winter is the most magical time of the year. Who can complain about the beauty of the snow as it lays untouched on surrounding trees and fields? Who can be upset about Christmas cookies and trading gifts with friends?

It is an amazing time meant to be spent with friends and families. It is a time where we are allowed to forget about all the stresses and sadness of the year.

It is a time of love and happiness with one of the main purposes being to spread joy.

Yes, the mall can get packed and the snow makes travel tough.

But, if Christmas was a year-round celebration, I would not mind it at all. I, personally enjoy the idea of joyous celebration and cheer.

With that being said, it is time to end the debate. When should we start celebrating Christmas?

Simple.

Christmas celebrations start the day that Halloween ends. November 1 is just the beginning of a two-month celebration for the holidays. The longer we celebrate, the better.

What about Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is cool and all, but it is not a real holiday. I mean is it really worth celebrating a holiday based on a lie? A holiday celebrating massacres is probably one that we could skip or at least graze over in anticipation for Christmas.

Thanksgiving can just be thought of as a practice Christmas or a small part of the holiday season we are celebrating anyway.

As soon as we finish listening to the "Monster Mash," it is time to turn on "All I Want for Christmas is You."

The Christmas tree can go up and we can start baking Christmas cookies. We basically have the same foods for Thanksgiving and Christmas so why should we differentiate decorations and celebrations?

Maybe the early snow this year is a sign. Mother Nature is telling us that we should be celebrating Christmas earlier. The snow is not a result of early Christmas celebration. It is the catalyst to a future of Christmas celebration beginning in November.

We need to stop resisting and fighting the pull of Christmas celebrations. What's wrong with a little Christmas cheer?

It is easier to just let the Christmas celebration start in November instead of enduring the agonizing wait for Thanksgiving's end.

Everyone who complains about Christmas music before Thanksgiving is actually just fighting the irresistible urge to sing along.

Anyone who is against putting the Christmas tree up before Thanksgiving is actually anxiously awaiting the moment they can put the star on top.

Those who turn down Christmas cookies before Thanksgiving will regret it later.

So, turn up the Christmas carols, indulge in a few cookies, and put up that Christmas tree.

It is officially time to start celebrating Christmas.

After all, it is the most wonderful time of the year.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
