Will and Jonathan might be freaks because they are different, Will and Mike might be crazy because of last season’s events, and I might be a crazy freak because of how much I love the newest season of "Stranger Things."
The long-awaited second season of Netflix's "Stranger Things" dropped on Friday Oct. 27. The season continued with the relationships and 80's nostalgia that fans loved while building up the intensity of the show overall.
It is extremely rare for any film or TV show to come out with a sequel that is just as good as the original, but this new season did just that. I could even make a case for why the second season is better — that's right, I said better — than the first season. It really is that good.
And what makes it that good, you ask?
It is the new characters. So let's talk about them and be warned that there are spoilers.
1. Mad Max
There is a new member of the boys' party, and she is definitely the coolest. The boys, specifically Lucas and Dustin, fall head over heels for the new girl Max, played by Sadie Sink. She makes it clear to them that she is in the party for the long run and adds an interesting layer to the story.
2. Erica
An icon. A queen. A legend. Erica wasn't even on screen for ten minutes but her attitude added comedy and a fun little dynamic to the plot. Every moment she is on screen, she adds so much heart and laughter with her sass. I am hoping that looking Priah Ferguson, the young actress who plays Erica, get more screen time in the upcoming season.
3. Bob
If you can make Joyce happy, you make me happy. In the process of melting Joyce's heart, Bob truly melted all of our hearts as well. His brains made him the missing puzzle piece to part of the plot's mystery, and we have to love him for bringing some joy into Joyce's life. The tragic death of Bob, played by Sean Astin, is also a key plot point that needed to happen, despite the fact that it crushed all of
our emotions.
4. Murray
Murray is hands down my favorite character in the series. Brett Gelman plays thisclearly brilliant but also quirky character. He knew exactly how to help publicize the happenings of Hawkins without putting the nation in terror and disbelief. He also was the reason Nancy and Jonathan finally got together, so I'll let you decide which is more important.
5. Billy
Billy, played by Dacre Montgomery, is Max's step-brother, but more importantly, the human villian. He is definitely evil, however it's understandable why he is that way. It shows us that all evil has a cause, so know we just have to wait and see what caused the whole Upside Down villianhood.
6. Dad Steve
Steve, played by Joe Keery, undergoes a huge shift in this season that I think he deserves his own character here. He transformed from the terrible boyfriend into the best babysitter around. I love how the Duffer Brothers made this change, because it really added a nice arch to the previously stagnant character. It also created one of my new favorite pairings: Dustin and Steve.
