Hey! How much do you weigh? Too personal? Well, I bet you weigh more than you know! I'm not talking about your pounds people! I'm referring to your carbon footprint!

I bet you've never thought of your carbon footprint as much as you probably should. Sure you take out the trash here and there. Of course, you've been recycling... right? Separating your papers from your plastics and other miscellaneous trash. But there's more! You can do more to help our environment!

Here are 8 different ways you can lessen your carbon footprint.

1. Glass/paper straws

How amazing is this?! Glass Straws! They're inexpensive, attainable and come in varieties, such as shape (bend/straight), size and color. You can order them online from your favorite vendors such as Amazon or go to your local Target or Bed Bath and Beyond to purchase! They're dishwasher safe and ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE!

What about paper straws? Biodegradable paper straws are also a great and even more inexpensive alternative. Over 1 billion straws are used per day that can't and won't degrade for hundreds of years! Using glass and paper straws reduces your carbon footprint tremendously! Think about it? TRY IT!

2. Stop buying water bottles

I know that they're convenient, but invest in a filter for your kitchen sink! It takes 1.5 million barrels of oil to manufacture water bottles every year and those very bottles take more than 1,000 YEARS to biodegrade. Ain't nobody got time for that! Mason jars are cute, customizable and inexpensive! You can store your water in glass mason jars! If not, another alternative is to look into other portable glass-like containers to transport your drinks more efficiently!

3. Economy class

Now I know first class is GOALS! But the next time you're in economy crammed between a snoring man with terrible body order and an anxious Betty on the other, remember that you're helping out our environment by taking one for the team, NO, FOR THE WORLD, in fact! So while the kid behind you keeps on kicking the back of your seat just know that using economy class is benefitting the use of carbon emissions being used!

4. Lighting

Turn off lights in your home when they're not in use. Try avoiding using the lights until you actually need them. The sun's out! That's why it's around! A good way to follow this advice is to wait until the street lights outside are turned on because it's always right before the sun completely sets! Most importantly, don't forget to replace incandescent light bulbs with the compact fluorescent or LED ones! They're brighter, lighter, last 15 times longer and less hot!

5. Unplug

Hey! Unplug your devices! Even if the charger for your phone, for example, isn't charging your phone and it's just plugged into your outlet, IT'S STILL USING ENERGY! Crazy, right?! Well, now you know! Unplug the electronics from your outlets when they're not in use to minimize consumption of power.

6. Inflated tires

Did you know that if you don't upkeep the inflation of how much air is in your tires your car ends up burning more gas? More gas means more harmful pollution added to our atmosphere. Keeping your tires properly inflated will not only improve your gas mileage but it also keeps your engine tuned because it's not working so hard!

7. Cotton or cloth bags

Reuse! Recycle! Many cities and towns have already implemented their 5 cents per disposable plastic/shopping bags bill. I'm sure many people were upset but think about it, most are never used again! Well here's a fantastic solution! Get your hands on some bags! Not your Michael Kors or Kate Spade bags of course, but get your hands on the inexpensive reusable tote bags made up of cotton/cloth. They're reusable, more reliable and you won't have to worry about making several trips because your bag might rip/tear!

8. Insulation

The better insulated your home, room, and environment, then the less heat energy would have to be used! So keep in mind of the cracks and spaces between your doors, and windows! Fun Tip: Close your curtains during the winter and during chilly summer nights! That way your heater won't have to work twice as hard keeping your space warm!

There it is you guys! 8 ways to reduce your size! Don't you feel much lighter?

If you find this list to be overwhelming, don't feel like you have to change overnight! Choose a top 3 and when those start to become natural to you, then work your way into adding more of these tasks into your lifestyle!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
