Captain America: Civil War is fast approaching. The movie comes out May 6th of this year. There are several reasons to be excited for this movie and not just because it's Marvel.
The Russo brothers have directed this movie, so I have some pretty high expectations for it. After the superb job they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I'm sure Civil War will be just as good, if not better.
The previews promise an emotional, action packed flick. I'm sure none of us enjoy seeing all of our favorite heroes turned against each other. However, it seems that (and again, only from the previews) Marvel has, yet again, done a monumental job putting this movie together. So in a way, I'm very much looking forward to seeing them fight.
Also. Let me get to my favorite topic of the year and the main focus of this particular article. Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier.
Sebastian Stan's performance as Bucky Barnes in Captain America: the Winter Soldier was nothing less than astounding. He, unfortunately, had very few lines, but the character was incredibly acted, nonetheless.
In Civil War, it seems that Bucky Barnes will not only play a significantly larger part than he did in the previous Captain America movie, but that he will be one of the main focuses of the movie. Let me just say that I'm more than thrilled.
The character is fascinating and I am excited to see so much more of him in this movie. According to people working on the movie, he isn't fully Bucky that we saw in the first Captain America, but he isn't the Winter Soldier either. He even has much of his memories, as is evidenced by comments and by the teaser trailer.
Not only do we get to have more scenes of Bucky Barnes, but we're clearly also going to get several scenes of interaction between Steve and Bucky. Both of them have been through a lot, but their friendship seems to have remained intact. So it's no surprise that Bucky is on Steve's side in this fight.
However, the previews seem to imply that, for Steve, this fight is as much about Bucky as it is about the registration. I'm not sure if the issue of superhero registration will take a back seat to Steve protecting Bucky, but I do wonder if it's a possibility. I don't know exactly how I feel about that, however. I think the superhero registration is a very important issue in the comics and I hope that they treat it as such in the movie. Although, I don't think it's out of character for Steve to be protective of Bucky, especially after all his friend has been through. Besides the fact that Steve seems to be protective by nature.
All in all, I am very much looking forward to this movie and May can't come soon enough!
