There's something about December that makes me want to cozy up in a coffee shop with a hot drink and a good aesthetic. Unfortunately, not all cafes are created equally; some lack in twinkling lights while others charge waaayyyy too much for a simple coffee with milk and sugar. If you're struggling to find the perfect spot to catch up with friends, have a casual date, or bang out an essay...

Here's the best of cafes in New Jersey

1. American Bulldog Coffee Roasters - Ridgewood, NJ

First on the list, and also my personal favorite, is American Bulldog Coffee Roasters. They place at number one for not only the taste of their coffee, but the atmosphere they've carefully curated with a fireplace, multiple rooms, and the dog that occasionally wanders around. The wood and marble tables also make a great backdrop for your Instagram feed. Don't be embarrased; we've all made our friends wait to eat until we've gotten that perfect pic. While you're there, try a chocolate chip pumpkin muffin. They're vegan and gluten free but still taste like heaven.

2. Jane Cafe - Pearl River, NY

Ok, maybe it's not New Jersey, but it's close enough. Another cute space with lots of light and comfy seating, Jane is more of a lunch spot than a place to grab your morning coffee. Still, their coffee and tea is outstanding. What steals the show here is the breakfast and lunch comfort food; from soups and salads to pancakes, paninis, and amazing empanadas, even the pickiest eater is sure to find something they like here!

3. Sogno - Westwood, NJ

They may have moved locations, but the deliciousness of their crepes was definitely not affected in the process. Whether you prefer sweet or savory fillings, Sogno's got you covered. My favorite part of the shop is the crazy amount of hot chocolate and coffee flavors they have. It ranges from crowd favorites like vanilla and caramel to even sweeter red velvet, cinnamon bun, and samoa. Someone grab me a mug!

4. The Corner - Montclair, NJ

What can I say besides I'm obsessed with this place? From the decor that looks straight out of an HGTV show to the specials that bring something new everyday, The Corner always has great food and good vibes (just look at the sign on the wall). My regular dish is the burrata toast with strawberries, but less adventurous eaters will enjoy their breakfast favorites and shoestrings fries. Don't forget to try their homemade sodas and coffee drinks.

5. Sook - Ridgewood, NJ

Last but not least, one of my favorite places to get amazing pastries and desserts, is the small but charismatic Sook. The little cakes and colorful macaroons will have you pulling out your camera immediately. Have a bigger appetite? The crepes are to die for. All the coffee drinks will fix your winter warm beverage craving, but make sure to try the frozen hot chocolate, too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
