"She couldn't feel her wings, but knew they were there, so she built a ladder that led to the sky. And when she touched the clouds, she remembered how to fly." - Atticus
One of my favorite songs is "Blackbird" by the Beatles. You must be wondering why I am telling you this. It is because the lyrics are powerful, and everyone should feel their impact.
I had a friend who would sing me the song every time I was upset or angry because it always cheered me up. Most people will tell you the song was meant for addressing racial problems back in the sixties, but to me, that song is something of inspiration. The song brings me hope. The song says, "Take these broken wings and learn to fly."
The reason I connect with this so deeply is because of all the struggles I have faced. In life, bad things happen to people, but that doesn't have to define you. Like the song says, you can take what life has thrown you and learn to look at it differently or learn how to achieve what you want by pushing past the obstacle.
A wise friend of mine once told me if you never take the chance, you will never know that things can get better if you just look for a different angle. Just because something is broken, it doesn't mean the value has changed. After all, broken crayons still color.
So when things get you down, pick your head up, and find a new way to succeed. Sometimes we forget how to fly, but that doesn't mean we can't. When all you can say is "can't," take off the extra letter and say "can." Positivity in a dark place is always hard, but when you are scared and lost, positive thoughts become your flashlight. I had a teacher tell me once that I could never cross the ocean until I had the courage to lose sight of the shore. Just have faith and courage. Overcome what scares you, because even with broken wings you can still fly. It just takes strength. Believe in yourself, and one day you can fly. I hope the song that has encouraged and strengthened me can help at least one person.
"Blackbird singing in the dead of night.
Take these broken wings and learn to fly.
All your life.
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night,
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see.
All your life,
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.
Blackbird fly
Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night
Blackbird fly
Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise."
