Whether you are a college student back for the summer or a long-time suburban resident, the boredom of stagnation in the suburbs may come and go. In order to combat this feeling, the following suggestions are meant to motivate and encourage involvement in your local area.
1. Take Classes
You may be surprised by what is offered in your surrounding area. Look for interesting classes on glass blowing, holistic remedies, hot yoga, belly dancing, or boxing. Groupon may just be your best friend for this one.
2. Art Related Activities
On the topic of taking classes, something artistic relating to pottery, painting, or calligraphy may be a great evening activity. You can't get more suburban than one of those wine and paint studios.
3. Farmer's Market Cooking
In almost every suburb there is some form of farmer's market supplying local and farm fresh ingredients. I recommend attending the next event and supporting your local economy through cooking something new with farmer's market food.
Don't have a farmer's market in your suburb? Consider subscribing to a Community Supported Agriculture Organization (CSA) where farms will deliver fresh produce straight to your doorstep.
4. Estate Sales and Antique Treasures
Keep an eye out for opportunities where used vintage items are up for grabs. Collectables and other unique knick knacks are always a fun find.
5. Become a Foodie
Regardless of where you are located, there is bound to be a type of cuisine you have never tried. Whether that is Lebanese, El Salvadorian, or even chicken and waffles, different food will make your stuck-in-the-suburbs experience feel a little less restrictive.
