Ever since the Rob Kardashian fiasco, Blac Chyna has become one of the most popular names in pop culture. Here's a little background on Blac Chyna for those of you who don't care to keep up with the "culture" (honestly, I don't either. But this subject, in particular, is one that is extremely important, especially now).
In their relationship, Rob and Blac Chyna seemed to be the perfect couple. They were thriving, she was helping him lose weight (allegedly), he bought her expensive things all the time. By April of 2016, they were engaged and their daughter was already on the way. In December of 2016, apparently, a hacker had leaked Blac Chyna's text messages to her friend, in which she spoke about how she never really loved Rob and she wanted to "wipe him clean" and leave.
After a rocky breakup, Rob Kardashian ranted on Instagram and he claimed that Chyna only had a child with him to spite Tyga. He also spoke about her explicit sex life to the world. Not long after, explicit videos of Blac Chyna were exposed on the web. I remember when it was exposed on Twitter and everyone was bashing Blac Chyna.
Can you imagine being in a situation like that, where your personal photos and videos are exposed for the world to see and make fun of you?
Even though I'm not a huge Blac Chyna fan, I sympathize with her. Her situation is a real testament to what women go through every day.
Sure, even though she used to be a stripper, she still deserves the same amount of respect as any other women out in the world.
I can just hear misogynistic men now: "It doesn't matter to her because she shows her body provocatively all the time anyway" and "you can't expect to send photos to your significant other and think they won't expose you."
Boys will be boys, right?
Wrong.
This is the same exact culture that fosters rape, sexual abuse, and dehumanization of women. Guys who spread women's private photos like it's nothing don't understand that women are not sexual objects.
Again, I repeat: WOMEN ARE NOT SEXUAL OBJECTS FOR MEN TO USE WHENEVER AND HOWEVER THEY PLEASE.
We are not on this earth for men to objectify and sexualize. So what if Blac Chyna was a stripper? She literally only started because she wanted to pay for COLLEGE. She was in those circumstances because she could not pay to get an education for herself.
I think it's interesting that these men who think it's okay to spread the photos are probably the same men who belittle women for taking the photos in the first place.
I remember one time, I was talking to one of my guy friends and he was talking about how he wanted to go to a strip club for his 19th birthday. I mean... I'm kind of against stripping in general and I really wouldn't want my boyfriend going to a strip club with a bunch of his friends, but okay. Do you, boo. Anyway, in the SAME sentence, he literally talked about how strippers are dumb and weren't actually real people who deserved respect.
You know who really doesn't deserve respect? Men who don't respect women.
I also remember this one time I went out to get some pizza with my friends on a Friday and there were a bunch of clubs that were poppin' that night. And this girl in a tight dress and high heels walked out in front of the pizza shop and drunkenly yelled at her boyfriend about something. And one of the guys in a group next to us was like, "Wow, I wonder what she's majoring in? Definitely not engineering. She's gonna end up as a stripper."
As if a girl dressed a certain way can't be smart? As if a stripper can't be smart?
I'm not condoning the lifestyle, but I know a lot of people do it because they need fast money or can't afford certain things with minimum wage jobs. But even if they are dancing exotically or whatever, it doesn't mean they still don't deserve respect.
Let me ask you a question:
Can a prostitute get raped?
Many people would say no right away because it's a girl who sells her body. Of course, she can't get raped. But that mindset just goes to show how little we know about the true meaning of rape. That's the same thing as saying, "A girl who's showing more skin deserves to be raped." No one DESERVES to be raped and ANYONE can get raped, regardless of their status, profession, or affiliation.
So with the whole Blac Chyna deal that's going on — men and women alike — please remember that she is a human being regardless of the fact if she lives her life a certain way. She is a human being who deserves respect and a life free of people who don't think twice about exposing her.
This goes for women everywhere. I'm not going to sit here and tell a girl that she can't send nudes to her significant other if she wants to. If she wants to, she can. It's the significant other's job to make sure that after they're through and through, those photos are deleted from their phone and they have no trace of anything that can be used to expose or blackmail them. It's not fun and it's not fair.
Use this fiasco that's happening with Blac Chyna as a lesson to think twice before forwarding that video or that photo of someone to other people.
Remember that we're all people, too.
