35 Shows You Must See On Netflix

Every day on social media, I see someone asking what is the best show to start next on Netflix. As a college student, watching Netflix is something I’ve learned best. If I am not in class, doing homework, or working, you can catch me in bed binge watching TV. So if you’re looking for something new to sink your teeth into, this one’s for you. Here is my list of every show I’ve watched on Netflix by category:

LIFE

1. "Gossip Girl"

This show follows a group of teenagers living the dream on the upper east side of New York. While it may seem like they have it all, they have a secret stalker who blogs about everything that happens in their lives. Nothing is a secret on the upper east side. With someone watching their every move, the teenagers struggle to navigate through every day life.

2. "One Tree Hill"

This show follows a group of teenagers in the small town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. Half brothers Nathan Scott and Lucas Scott struggle with a rivalry created by their father but later become close as ever. While that is how the show begins, there is lots of drama and action, packed into the 9 seasons of the show. If you are looking for something to keep you on edge and wanting more, this show is for you. I can’t begin to tell you how amazing this series is. With so many life lessons and amazing quotes through out the show, One Tree Hill will leave you with a whole different perspective on life. 10/10 would recommend!

3. "Army Wives"

This show is an American drama series that follows the lives of four army wives, one army husband, and their families that live on base with their husbands. The wives band together to support one another during deployments and rough times on base. If you are a product of a military family or just have a thing for men in uniform, this series is for you. And even if you’re not, this show really gives you a perspective on individuals who are and leaves you with a greater respect for those who serve our country.

4. "Pretty Little Liars"

Okay, we’ve all heard/seen this show on the formally known ABC Family network so I will keep this description brief. This series follows a group of teens who are trying to uncover the mystery in the murder of their friend Alison DiLaurentis. One year after her death, the teens start to receive text from a mysterious individual by the name of “A”. With “A” following their every move, the girls try to navigate through the treats and the torture “A” bestows upon them for the mistakes they made before and after Alison’s death. This series will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you always wondering who exactly “A” is. Now I agree, it can be frustrating at times but believe me, if you stick with the show to the end, it is a great watch.

5. "Last Man Standing"

Okay, so where are my 90’s babies at?? If you love Tim Allen and loved the show “Home Improvement” this one is for you!! In this show, Tim Allen plays Mike Baxter, a blunt and comical “manly-man”. Mike Baxter is the marketing manager for a store exactly like Bass Pro called “Outdoor Man’. He struggles to navigate life while living with his three daughters and wife under one roof. I personally love this show not only because Mike Baxter reminds me of my dad, but because it is so comical. The show has a lot of parallels to “Home Improvement” and they are always bringing in characters from that series. Now I will warn you, part of his character as Mike Baxter, Tim Allen is very political. So if you are anti-guns or are a strong democrat, I do not recommend this show.

6. "13 Reasons Why"

I recommend this show to anyone and everyone. This show will absolutely change your perspective on life and really make you think about the things you say. Each episode of this series is a different tape that a young girl left explaining the 13 reasons why she killed herself. The show is so relatable because many individuals, especially girls, go through bullying in high school. While some handle bullying differently than others, this show allows you to see the worst case scenario and leaves a powerful message on just how much words can hurt. 10/10 would definitely definitely definitely recommend!!!!

7. "Friends"

Okay, I know everyone has heard of this show! This series follows a group of friends that live in New York that are struggling to grow up and settle down. They stand together as they try and find their way in this world.

8. "Big Mouth"

Big Mouth is a Netflix original cartoon that is a fun way of describing puberty and growing up. It is hilarious. Enough said.

9. "Blue Mountain State"

This show follows the football team of Blue Mountain State University. It gives a peek into the lives of a college student and further, a college football player. There is a lot of cussing, drugs, alcohol and nudity in this show so beware. But I promise its not every college’s story. Its just entertainment!

10. "Shameless"

Lord, where do I start with this show? Let me begin by saying, this show will make you appreciate everything you have. The show follows the Gallagher family as they navigate through life dealing with a drunk dad, an absent mother, all while not having much at all. The oldest, Fiona, gets custody of her siblings and tries to raise them as best as possible, all while trying to make a life of her own. This show is great but involves a lot of foul language and nudity.

11. "Fuller House"

Again, calling all 90’s babies!! If you remember growing up watching the TV series “Full House” then you’ll love this! This show is a continuum of the Full House series and follows the lives of DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy Gibler as they continue their lives into adulthood. Oh, and they live in the same house they grew up in... how fun!!

CRIME

12. "White Collar"

Neil Caffery, a well known con artist, forger, and thief, is captured after three years in the game. After his capture, Special Agent Peter Burke from the FBI offers a deal to Caffery to allow him to work alongside him as an FBI consultant apprehending dangerous white collar criminals. I mean, who better to catch these criminals then a criminal themselves? Although he is working as a consultant, Neil Caffery finds himself in situations where it is hard not to fall back into his con artist ways. Ultimately, Caffery creates the biggest con of all time, leaving Special Agent Peter Burke in the crosshairs. If you enjoy mysteries and want to take a look into the criminal mind, this show is for you.

13. "Burn Notice"

This show follows a covert spy by the name of Michael Westen who is trying to uncover the real truth for his “burn notice” or dismissal. Throughout the show, Westen and his sidekick/ex-lover Fiona run into drama and danger in their quest to uncover the truth. If crime shows are something you enjoy, this show is something you would enjoy. You will learn things about the government that you didn’t even know existed.

14. "Criminal Minds"

This series is a MUST WATCH! The show follows the team of the behavioral analysis unit of the FBI in Quantico Virginia. In the 12 seasons of the show, the team uncovers the truth in the hardest criminal cases by stepping into the minds of these individuals. If murders and serial killers is something that intrigues you, this show is definitely for you. But be warned, this show is not for the faint of heart!

15. "Hawaii Five-0"

My lord, I cannot rant enough about this show!! When Commander Steve McGarrett returns home from duty to find his fathers killer, the governor of Hawaii extends him the offer of creating his own special tasks force to catch the criminals of Hawaii. McGarrett and his partner Danny work alongside each other despite their disagreements in tactical styles when catching these criminals. Their love/hate relationship will keep you laughing at all times while satisfying your love for criminal justice. 10/10 would definitely recommend this show!

17. "CSI Miami"

If Criminal Minds is something you enjoyed, this show is for you too! Lieutenant Horatio Cane works alongside his team of criminal investigators to catch the baddest of the bad in Miami Florida. This show will have you wanting to switch your major or go to school for criminal justice! It honestly blew my mind on all the scenarios of crime that can happen in this world.

18. "Dexter"

Set also in Miami Florida, this series follows a forensic technician by the name of Dexter Morgan, who specializes in blood spatter patterns. While Dexter is a blood spatter analyst by day, he is a serial killer by night. Although he is a psychopath, he chooses his victims by serving justice to the individuals who slip through the cracks of the police department. While no one around him knows who he is or what he does, Dexter tries to cover up his crimes from his family and co-workers. This series is SO good to watch but in my opinion, it’s kind of crazy to me that they allowed this show to air considering it literally teaches people how to commit murder and get away with it.

19. "How to Get Away with Murder"

This series is about a law teacher and five of her students who go up against the best of the best to get the innocent and the guilty off the hook for many different crimes. But while they are working hard to help these people, they are also working hard to hide crimes of their own. This show is so action-packed and keeps you wanting more. At the beginning of each season, you get a flash of what is to come towards the end and as the season goes on, you receive a little more information during those flashes. Each episode builds up to the main event at the end of each season. This show has so much mystery in it and seriously makes you feel sorry for the students who are in it. The lies and the webs they get tangled up in is crazy. I will throw out there that this series is very graphic, not only with blood but with intimate scenes as well.

20. "Scandal"

Olivia Pope is the best lawyer that anyone could have. The show takes place in Washington DC where Olivia finds herself in a love triangle with the president of the United States and his wife, all while she fights to cover up any scandal in the DC area. Her father is the leader of a secret government agency called B 6-13 which basically murders anyone who poses a threat to the United States or anyone who gets in his way. While covering up everyone else’s scandal, Olivia struggles to cover up the biggest scandal of her own. This show is crazy good! 10/10 would recommend!

21. "Orange is the New Black"

This series begins by following the life of Piper Chapman and her crime that landed her in an all woman’s prison. It continues to follow her story as well as other inmates in the facility. This show is a very interesting show but I will warn that it can be very graphic. But if you like this show, you’ll like the next one!

22. "Wentworth"

So as stated above, this show is pretty much like Orange is the New Black. It also follows the lives of women in an all women’s prison but it takes place in Australia. The lead character Bee struggles to climb her way to the top as the “leader” of the girls but once she’s there, she realizes its not all what it cracked up to be. There’s so much more that happens in this show, you’ll just have to watch it and see!

23. "Prison Break"

This show is absolutely nuts! Okay so, this show is about a guy named Michael Scofield whose brother has been in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He comes up with the ultimate escape plan to break out his brother, but not all goes as planned. Once they have broken out, Scofield and his brother, as well as others who broke out with them, fight to evade the authorities on their journey to Mexico where they believe they will be free. As the show continues on, the prisoners continue to get locked up one at a time in different facilities and must continue to break each other out.

24. "Lie to Me"

This show follows a man who solves crimes all by reading body language and facial expressions. He uncovers the truth on the toughest cases, all without a word from the criminal. This show blew my mind. I had no idea you could tell so much about someone all from body language and facial expressions. You don’t even need to speak!

25. "Riverdale"

This show follows the lives of young teens living in a small town. When one of their own shows up dead, the whole town is left wondering what exactly happened to the teen. While there is only one season on Netflix currently, I would recommend this show completely! I would kind of compare it to Pretty Little Liars but better! Oh, and if you are a fan of the Sprouse brothers, Cole Sprouse is in it!

26. "Sons of Anarchy"

One word: Jackson. This show follows the lives of a motorcycle gang called the Son’s of Anarchy. It tells of the lives of a motorcycle gang member and shows you the harsh reality of what life is like when a member. Oh and Jackson Teller… he’s really fun to look at.

Mythological Creatures

27. "Vampire Diaries"

This series follows a 17-year-old girl named Elena Gilbert who falls in love with a 17thcentury vampire named Stefan Salvatore and later his brother Damon, who have been living normal lives all while trying to hide their thirst for blood. Her best friend Bonnie, who is a witch, helps her to navigate through her love for the brothers and uses her magic to fix sticky situations. If the Twilight series is something that you enjoyed, this show is for you. I can honestly say that next to One Tree Hill, this show had the BEST ending to a series.

28. "The Walking Dead"

Okay, I’m 99.9% positive everyone has at least heard of this famous AMC series!! This show is about a group of individuals who are constantly fighting to survive amongst each other as well as the undead after a disease that turns individuals into zombies, takes over the entire world. With limited supplies and the undead everywhere, the group fights to establish themselves in a safe community where they can live out their days as best as possible. This show is absolutely crazy and will have you preparing for a zombie apocalypse, even if you don’t believe in it. Believe me, it changed me!

29. "American Horror Story"

Okay, I’m not really sure how to describe this show other than it’s a great show to watch. While it has the same cast throughout the series, each season is a different theme or story. My favorite season is Coven, but I will warn that it is very graphic.

30. "Santa Clarita Diet"

This Netflix original follows a so-called “normal” family in Santa Clarita California. When the wife suddenly turns into the undead, the family struggles to keep her flesh-eating diet under wraps all while trying to figure out how this happened and if there are others.

MEDICAL

31. "Grey's Anatomy"

Do I even need to explain this one?? Everyone has at least heard of this show or seen an episode of it. All I’m going to say is, this show had me wanting to change my major and go to school to become a doctor... and I don’t even like blood and bones.

32. "Private Practice"

So, for those of you who are huge Grey's Anatomy fans, I’m sure you have at least heard of this show. If not, here you go. Remember Derek’s ex-wife Addison? Remember when she left the show to go work at a private practice in California? This show is her life once she arrived in California. It is the perfect spin-off to Grey’s Anatomy!

33. "House"

This show follows a doctor and his team who work to uncover the craziest of medical mysteries. Although the doctor is an addict to painkillers due to a leg injury, he and his team solve the medical mysteries that others can’t and save many lives. If you watch “The Good Doctor”, this show is written by the same person!

OTHER

34. "Black Mirror"

This show is absolutely mind-blowing. All I’m saying is, if we ever have the technology that this show has, we are all screwed. This show isn’t a show that is continuous. Each episode is a different scenario and different technology. I honestly cannot find the words to describe it. You just have to watch it. I promise, it’ll blow your mind.

35. "The End of the F******* World"

This Netflix Original is about a young boy who is a psychopath and is struggling to fight the urge to kill. In the beginning, he meets a girl who doesn’t know what he is, and he struggles not to kill her too. They run away together and find themselves in a sticky situation but along the way, he finds himself feeling something he’s never felt before… love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
