As the holidays are coming up, this means a lot of cooking and preparations. While we each have our own traditional recipes we like to make, here are some that will taste yummy and make you hungry.

1. Matzo ball soup

As the weather gets chilly and the stress of school gets real, there is nothing better than a nice hot bowl of matzo ball soup. For those wondering, it is made of matzo meal, eggs, water, and oil. Most people use mixes, but everyone loves the comforting feeling.

2. Stuffed derma/kishka

While kishka has varied during the years, the one thing that has remained constant is how amazing it tastes. It has a unique flavor that's hard to describe. Whenever I have this it is such a treat. The kishka is the orangey food in the top left.

3. Latkes

I love this food so much, even though making it takes so long. Latkes are fried shredded up potato patties that are made during Chanukah, but my family makes them whenever we are in the mood for them. These won't last one night in the Salles household, they are addicting!

4. Challah

Even though I have this delicious bread every Friday night, I still love it. There is nothing like the smell and taste of a freshly made loaf of challah. Not only is it good on Friday night, but as French toast or bread pudding, too!

5. Brisket

To all the BBQ places, Jews make the best brisket! Having my mother's brisket is so comforting and delicious. The savory flavor of the meat with an amazing texture is just awesome. Thinking about it makes my mouth water!

6. Kugel

Whether it's potato or kugel, these are a staple at every holiday meal. Potato kugel is a pan of giant baked ground potatoes that has a nice crust and a soft inside. Noodle kugel is a sweet casserole made with noodles and could have cinnamon, raisins, or apples. These are always nice classics.

7. Cholent

This hearty stew with beans, potatoes, kishka, meat, barley, and more is great! This is eaten on Saturday during Shabbat so we can have a nice hot lunch. Not only is this amazing, but it's so easy to make!

8. Falafel

Okay, technically this isn't Jewish, but it's still amazing. This fried Israeli street food is so yummy and vegetarian!

9. Pastrami

This food is a must-have! This is especially easy to find in New York City and can easily be found at a Jewish deli! This is nice, delicious, and smoky. Having this is a rare treat and just amazing!

10. Matza brie

During Passover and during the year, this simple dish is just amazing. This not only makes Passover bearable, but it is something I look forward to after a long day at school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
