The Only 12 Songs You'll Ever Need On A Halloween Playlist

In This Article:

It's finally October, and the Halloween season is in full swing! Whether you're going trick or treating, throwing a costume party, or just having a movie marathon while eating a whole bag of mini Kit-Kats(which is the best option if we're being honest), there are some songs you can play this Hallow's Eve. Most people think all you have is "Monster Mash" and "Thriller" but believe me there is more. None of the songs are ranked in order, and I will list the reasons I picked each song below

1. "The Monster Mash" by Bobby Pickett

It's the perfect example of campy Halloween and is a song that is near and dear to everyone's heart

2. "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon

The chorus is so catchy, you'll be howling right along! Awoooooo!

3. "Life After Life" from Dracula the Musical

This song takes place after Dracula has sired Lucy Westenra and they rejoice for her new life as a vampire. The lyrics are wonderfully sinful with harmonies and an electric guitar that contribute to the ambiance.

4. "Transylvania Mania" from young Frankenstein

Based on the Mel Brooks film starring Gene Wilder, Dr. Frankenstein and his staff try to distract the villagers from the noises of the creature by spontaneously creating a new dance craze. It's the kind of song you want to dance to with a little soft shoe and have a crazy good time.

5. "Come Little Children" from Hocus Pocus

The plucking strings and ethereal voice give the song a vibe of a hypnotic lullaby that will lure you into the trap of a spooky witch

6. "This is Halloween" from the Nightmare Before Christmas

While there have been covers of this song by heavy metal groups and even, Panic! at the Disco, nothing beats the original version penned by Danny Elfman.

7. "Hedwig's Theme" from Harry Potter

With every film he works on, John Williams' scores perfectly set the tone of what the audience is about to watch. So grab your floo powder or Nimbus 2000, and get swept away to JK Rowling's Wizarding World!

8. "Lucy and Linus Theme Halloween Edition" from It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

This cartoon is a Halloween staple in my household. To make Lucy and Linus' theme appropriate for Halloween, Vince Guraldi added a flute to capture the breeze of a fall evening. Perfect to listen to while sitting in your pumpkin patch and hoping the Great Pumpkin will rise from it to give you presents

9. "The Addams Family Theme" from the Addams Family

Talk about a song you can snap to! The Addams are America's favorite goths and are great people to hang with on Halloween.

10. "Thriller" by Michael Jackson

Most people come for the song, I come for Vincent Price's narration. That voice just sends goose bumps up and down your spine.

11. "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" by Johan Sebastian Bach

If you're looking for spoopy, this classical piece is as old school spoopy as it gets. You most often hear it in horror parodies in film and television and you can just picture ghosts being summoned from the keyboards.

12. "Land of the Dead" by Voltaire

Some of you might recognize this song from the Grimm Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Daria Cohen's animation just amps up the lyrics as the main character of her video series, Duke, escorts us through the underworld and showcases the various monsters that keep him company. Be sure to visit soon!
