Everyone who's ever been to a concert knows that these 10 moments are inevitable:
1. Confidence comes out.
For some reason, every muscle in your being is pumped full of adrenaline, and somehow your alter ego emerges. In your alter ego you are the most confident ray of sunshine this entire world has ever seen. You are free to be who you want. Maybe it's the flashing lights or the view of your favorite musician but suddenly you are transformed… and you kind of like it.
2. Laser show and pyrotechnics
Speaking of flashing lights, some concerts come with a built in laser show. However, some take it to the next extreme and practically burn the stage down with fireworks and flames. I guess it depends on what type of show you’re into, but no matter what, we all get a little extra hype when the confetti cannons go off.
3. “Jazzy tunes”
And of course, it wouldn’t be a concert without the music. That is why you went after all, is it not? And when I asked a friend of mine what her favorite part about concerts was, this was the response I got. Yeah, you read that, folks: “jazzy tunes”. She’s not wrong though, typically live music as some fun energy and jazziness to it that you can’t quite get anywhere else… well unless the act isn’t very good.
4. Strangers
We all learned “stranger danger” when we were about four years old, but let’s be real: concert people are either the best people or the worst people, but either way, it's pretty exciting to meet people at a concert. Sometimes you can meet your friends for life at a show. Other times, you may want to punch a particularly annoying person in the face… I mean, like, not everyone wants to mosh with you, dude. But, hey, either way, you get a pretty cool story to tell.
5. Encores
Sometimes they happen and sometimes they don’t. Today, most bands will plan an encore which is cool because they always come back with some crazy lights and that one really good song they have. However, REAL encores are even better. Finding solidarity in masses of people who all refuse to vacate the barricade in hopes that the band will play just one last song.
6. Meeting celebrities
So, this doesn’t happen EVERY time, but when it does it's pretty radical. Even just the thought of being that close to Niall Horan gets me pumped up. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, all that is lying between you and your favorite musician is a barricade, and that isn’t so bad, is it?
7. That moment when the musicians says your town/state
Unless they mispronounce it, then it's kinda just sad, but I guess they at least took the time to customize their show a little. Bonus points if they substitute your state name into one of their lyrics!
8. Screaming lyrics as opposed to singing
There’s three types of singing your favorite song: calm and orderly, in the car with your friends and the windows down, and concerts. I prefer the last one just like most concert goers do, but to each their own I guess.
9. That state of being after a concert
The moment you emerge from the pit or from the venue, usually slightly sweaty, but totally buzzing from the music. You usually can’t hear very well, but you’re okay with that because you feel totally awesome. However, sometimes you aren’t quite sure if that sweat is your sweat or someone else's… either way, it was worth it.
10. Post-Concert Depression
Okay, maybe this isn’t quite a reason that concerts are the best, but it is definitely evidence. About 14 hours after a good concert you will have a complete mental breakdown where you have to reevaluate your life because you want to find a way to always be at that show. Somewhere deep in your soul, you will feel like that band just understands you and you are henceforth determined to see them again.
