So, I spent quite a bit of time thinking about what would be good to talk about. Maybe something serious and political, perhaps something detailing the finer side of home decor. Nope, I decided it would be way more fun to do a ranking of all the albums of the four greatest female pop icons of the late 90s early 2000s. Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, and the incomparable Britney Spears were four of the biggest pop icons when they came out. The wave of pop music ushered in by groups like the Spice Girls, Backstreet Boys, and N'Sync dominated the radio, charts, and televisions for years, but the only thing that was missing was the solo female artist. Then like a lightning bolt Britney Spears popped on the scene.
Britney took the music world by storm and instantly became a global superstar. She opened the door for other record labels to follow suit, like Jive Records did, and find their own superstar. Almost instantly girls were getting signed left and right, given blonde hair, cute clothes, and told to dance and look pretty. These four particular women definitely stand out from the others, and while they were constantly compared to each other, because of their looks, age, and musical styles, each women is unique and while their musical journeys may have started with similarities, they all found their own voice and have been able to even today stand on their own two feet as their own artist.
Each week I will talk about each woman's album starting with their debut ending with the most recent. Every article will rank each song on the album from worst to best, not that any are really that bad, but somethings gotta be at the bottom. All of the rankings are my opinion but I'll do my best to say why I put what where, sometimes it may just not be an exciting song. Full disclaimer I love all of these women and I definitely have my favorite. It should be easy to tell who, but this is all just for fun and gave me a reason to go back and listen to their discographies which I haven't done in a long time. So sit back, and enjoy the ride. Feel free to listen along with me, up first is Mandy Moore.
