This a full blown SPOILER REVIEW! If you haven’t seen the movie and like spoilers or have seen the movie, then read on! For those who aren’t either, you’ve been warned...
Let’s talk about Drax for a quick minute. That guy has become comedy gold the past few movies. In the first "Guardians" he had a Vendetta against Thanos and now he’s all about jokes. It’s not a bad thing but when he gets all serious meeting Thanos, I thought to myself, “Oh yeah he hates that guy.” Try to stand still eating nuts watching your two friends go back and forth and result in making out without them noticing you. Should be a fun game to try sometime...
Spider-Man was a standout, and so was Doctor Strange, especially when he was sizing Thanos up and did his magic tricks to try and stop him. Benedict Cumberbatch (who I respectfully call Eggs Benedict Cumberbun) is one of my favorite actors working today. I squealed like a little girl when Spidey brought up the movie "Aliens!" My girlfriend can testify to that.
Let’s talk about my favorite minute in the whole film. Thor's entrance to Wakanda. Our theater was cheering and screaming watching the God of Thunder arrive with “Sweet Rabbit” on his shoulder and “Tree” at his side. When he jumped and summoned all the lightning he could, my entire row fangirled and we couldn’t stop talking about it.
It’s all about the theater crowd, if you go opening night (for me that’s Thursday) you’ll usually be joined by people who really want to see it, and not people looking to waste a few hours. So whenever something epic or funny happens, you best believe they’ll be enjoying it with you!
Thanos is a boss! The directors were saying, “Oh, he’s worse than Darth Vader.” Really? How on earth can you match him up to someone imprinted in our brains since child.....oh he’s gonna kill his own daughter? Hm, alright, I’ll play ball. This Titan is a man on a mission and nothing will stop him, not even sparing the one he holds most dear. And he wins! Thanos, I think, left an imprint on my sister.
The way this movie ends, the good guys losing yet there is a glimmer of hope, is exactly how "The Empire Strikes Back" ends. Thanos is now responsible for genocide on a unthinkable level, he wins! The Avengers can’t beat him!
My sister was quiet for a good bit after the movie, I’m sure a lot of kids were.
All Marvel movies up to this point, usually have the good guys winning. While you can make the argument "Civil War" ended sort of similar, it wasn’t as dark as "Infinity War." The kids have always seen their heroes win! But sometimes it’s good to see them lose, it reminds them that the world isn’t always as sunshiny, quipping, and fun as they’d like. There are dark forces in the world, and that means there’s evil. Sometimes you can’t beat it, but in the end, good always prevails.
That sounds sappy and dramatic, but it’s true.
The lesson this teaches kids and is a good reminder to everyone is that there are times when you will fall, when you will lose trying to accomplish something, but as well see in "Avengers 4," it’s always up to you to get back up and fight. Will you let it conquer you? Or will you rise to the occasion to beat it. Like Tony Stark put so elegantly in the first "Avengers," “If we can’t defend the earth, you can be damn sure we’ll avenge it!” We’re coming for you Thanos, and we’re coming for blood.
