There are shelters full of animals who were surrendered, or found abandoned and alone. These shelters are in almost every city in the United States, where they keep these poor animals who so badly just want another home.
I personally find it hard to believe someone could enjoy causing harm on another being, especially an animal, yet the news sources show us the upsetting reality that this really does happen, and more often than it should. This abuse to animals results in them eventually being surrendered and taken in by a shelter, wounded and afraid. Another reason shelters become so full is that buying a pet is accepting a lot of responsibility and people fail to recognize that before purchasing, so they end up not being able to properly care for it.
ACCT is a nonprofit organization that is the largest care center for animals in our city and it is supposed to be helping these animals while they wait to be adopted. What the ACCT Philly shelter is hiding is that they are failing to properly care for these animals.
It is being reported by workers that the building itself is infested with roaches and other bugs, that the sewage system is dysfunctional so there are times both workers and animals have to walk through inches of waste water. There is also often not clean water to give to the animals, or bathe them in. As infuriating as it is, these animals are often also being kept in cages with their own feces since there is a lack of an appropriate amount of staff.
Because of the way these animals are living, it should come as no surprise that they are often becoming sick because of the bacteria arising. Once one animal is sick, it is often that the employees find a majority of the animals to be sick since there is no quarantine area available and no full time vets to give them the proper care they need to be brought back to health.
There is no doubt about it, this is animal cruelty. Our city officials are turning a blind eye to it though since it is a city funded program. The board can't actually fundraise since they are composed largely of different city officials, so now it falls on us.
We all have lives, I get it, I myself won't even be able to make the rally, but we can still make a difference. And I don't just mean by donating money, which if you can is fantastic, but again not everyone has the money to donate, no matter how good the cause is. Something we all have in this country is a voice, and by using our voices we may be able to make a difference for these animals.
Attached will be a petition link which every one reading this most likely has the ability to sign. The petition is working towards gaining the attention that the ACCT so desperately needs, while the country is moving toward having a no-kill status, the building in which these animals find themselves needs to be addressed first.
These animals need a change, and we can help be that change. So please take the time to sign the petition.
