5 Major Life Lessons Young Girls Learn Watching 'How to Lose A Guy In 10 Days'

In This Article:

Andi Anderson played by Kate Hudson is a writer for a magazine and in the movie we follow her relationship with Ben, that she is using as her muse for her article. But as much as I love a good rom-com, this article has 5 major life lessons for young girls which is why it is my favorite movie.

1. Fight for what you want.

Giphy

We see Andi go through great lengths to fight for what she feels like she deserves, whether it was with a guy or at work. That is something that I think everyone needs to learn from.

2. Don't give up on your relationship just because it gets hard.

Giphy

When you and your significant other are fighting, it will take both of you to work together to fix the problem. That is not a one sided thing. But just because it gets hard, does not mean you have to run. This is shown when Ben and Andi attend couples therapy, even as a joke on Andi's part, but it still shows that Ben was willing to fix the problem, so girls go find a guy who will work that hard.

3. Make sure you are respected at your workplace.

Giphy

Sometimes as a young female, it is hard to gain the same amount of respect that a middle aged male would receive. Andi could see that she was not being respected and her opinion was not being valued at this company, so she left so she could find somewhere else to write. This showed that she was willing to give up being comfortable there, and leave so she could write about what she was passionate about. That takes courage.

4. Get yourself a good group of friends.

Giphy

During the whole movie, Andi had two girlfriends that helped her and gave her advice when she was struggling with her relationship with Ben or her position at work. Friends are the ones that will help when you are going through a hard time. Andi's two friends showed that you do not need to have a large amount a friends, quality is better than quantity in this situation.

5. If a guy truly likes you, he will make you a priority.

Giphy

Ben fought for Andi during the whole movie, even through all of the stupid things that she puts him through. He wanted to spend time with her. Girls if a guy does not want to spend time with you drop him.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
