Music has the power to affect emotions, spread messages, and improve the lives of listeners. Artists come from all different backgrounds and have all different types of experiences to build their work from. One artist, in particular, Mansionz puts quite a bit of effort into the messages behind their music. One of the songs from their self-titled albums "Mansionz" titled "i'm thinking about horses" is a great example of a song with an interesting and intricate message between the lines.

"i'm thinking about horses" could almost be considered a spoken word poem over instrumental music, as there is very little singing. It seems almost to be like a conversation between two friends in a way, as they just discuss what's on their mind. The story told seems to have little correlation, as it begins with "I'm thinking about God, is it a he or a she or a feeling or love?" It seems appropriate to say that when a conversation starts with a deep and philosophical question like that, it's bound to be a pretty interesting and mind-boggling conversation. Posner (of Mansionz) goes on to ask "Does she personally ordain every occurrence and every moment, or did she set the universe in motion and move on?" This is an intriguing question because it challenges a lot of the mainstream beliefs society has in this age. The mainstream Christian might believe that God created our planet and has an intricate role in all of our lives. Other people might believe that God created our planet and let us run wild from the beginning, moving on to his next creation.

Later, Posner goes on to say, "But it's after 10 pm now and I'm bored/I watched a movie on the internet alone and now it's over/I pick up my phone and text every female I know within a 15-mile radius/It's a terrible thing that deserves adjectives like "chauvinistic," "objectifying," and "asshole-ish." He almost mocks the young generations that rely on sexual relationships. Saying how easy it is to fall into typical sex-centered relationships that only hurt the people in them. Later in the song during a conversation with a woman named Nicole, Posner says "I'm thinking about horses, they're so goddamn regal," and then, "But they trade their freedom for a dependable meal/They let people get on top of them and tell them where to go/But how can I judge?/Is that not exactly what I do?/Is that not exactly what we all do?" He points out the fact that we all bend to the will of other people just to make sure we have enough money to afford the things we love and want. Not to say that this is always a bad thing, but it is definitely something very evident in our society.

Toward the end of the song, Posner starts to ask questions and think about his death. He says, "What if this plane goes down?" and, "I wonder if a lot of people would come to my funeral/Maybe my fans would do something special/Maybe they'd cry and maybe it'd be in the newspaper." He thinks about where his fame gotten him, where he is at in life and what kind of impact he's made.

Throughout the entire song, Mansionz provides a musical experience for the listener. The fluency of the poem, the movement from section to section, it all adds up to a beautiful piece of work. Overall, "i'm thinking about horses" is a song full of deep questions and short lines that stay with the listener long after it is over.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
