The movie that seems to be what everyone is talking about this summer is Amy Schumer's "Trainwreck," which brought in $30 million it's opening weekend. It tells a story of a party girl (Schumer's character) and her struggle with love, her family, and her job. Not only was this movie absolutely hilarious, but it was also relatable to a lot of people. Although Schumer did play a train wreck on screen, in reality she is actually the farthest thing from one.
A lot of what Schumer talks about is body image and confidence in herself. She isn't skinny and she's proud of that. She doesn't feel the need to work out all the time because she is confident in her appearance and what she looks like. So many people struggle with self acceptance and body image. Well, Schumer sends a message to all those people that you don't need to be skinny to be beautiful and it's okay to go to Starbucks and order two scones, especially if they're small.
One of the most important things about Schumer, though, is she doesn't need a man to define her. She bases a lot of her jokes around the idea that she sleeps with a lot of people, but in reality she doesn't actually do that. Even if she did, we would still love her, but she always makes it a point to make a joke around the idea that she doesn't need a man to be happy. Pizza will do a better job than any guy could, anyway. It's important for women these days to be independent without a romantic relationship, and this is definitely an important message that Schumer sends.
Amy Schumer's got it all figured out. She's in no rush to settle down, if she even decides to, at the age of 34. If we all took a few tips from the comedian, we would be living much happier lives with more confidence and more independence, while having a moderate drinking problem, that can easily be kicked by giving all the alcohol in your apartment to the homeless guy on the curb. If that's not the farthest thing from a train wreck then I don't know what is, but what I do know is I'll be taking tips from Schumer from now on. If you haven't seen "Trainwreck" yet, cancel your weekend plans because when it comes to comedies, no one does it better than Amy Schumer in this movie.
