America Is Not The Best Country In The World

And I know I am going to get some hate for this but we haven't been "the best" in a long time....

Before I start my opinionated discussion on why the United States of America, please watch the opening scene that really helps solidify this article and brings up very big reasons for why the U.S. hasn't been the greatest country in a long time but can be in the future.

This video clip actually speaks volumes about the U.S. standing in regards to the rest of the world in many different areas whether it's education or crime rates, or the development of our country as a whole. We used to be a top country in a majority of all categories when we were compared to others. We cultivated one of the world's best economies, strong development of a country and more. But something has changed over the years. And while yes, we are still considered one of the top countries but we haven't been the best or number one in quite some time.

But that being said we have been number one in other categories such as being number one in having the most incarcerations. Another thing that the U.S. leads statistically wise would be #10 on the most racist countries but being #3 when it comes to having a lot of cultural influence and differences. I think a lot of people get hung up on the fact that we are a free country with a plenty of opportunities for its citizens which is true but to be completely honest we aren't the only free country. As the video clip states, Italy, Spain, Canada, Scotland, and more countries are all free and have a plethora of opportunities for its citizens.

We honestly need to stop using "freedom" as a reasoning for being the best country when it simply isn't true. The United States has the highest poverty rate in the developed world. We're number one when it comes to total crime rates as well. If all of this "freedom" and opportunity is leading us to treat our citizens who are in poverty or are homeless terribly and showing people that the only way to get what they want with a corrupt government is to take it. Our country needs to work on bettering itself on an educational level first in my opinion and everything will follow.

We as a country are 14th in terms of education, 25th in math, 22nd in science, and #7 in literacy. We are also #18 in the quality of life, 4th in labor force and exports, and for a country who preaches a lot about the freedom we are only #22nd in freedom of the press. The U.S. also falls #17 in democracy and #30 in life expectancy. We aren't as great or amazing as we seem to constantly preach to others and other countries. And I am not saying that America can't become the best country or even just a better country than where we stand right now.

I am just saying it will take time, a lot of time in some cases. America isn't the best country in the world but with some time, patience, and hard work it can be. It's going to take all of us, not just the 1% who are in it for themselves. We need to bring a nation divided together. We can make our way back to the top with everyone's help and with everyone willing to work for a better future.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
