Many people shop on Amazon to get almost everything they need. From household cleaning products to a pretty dress, to the newest movie. It’s one of the biggest businesses for a reason, as it has almost anything you would want to buy. Many are also Prime members, which gets you that fantastic Two Free-Day Shipping that makes all other standard shipping seem like torture. Amazon also knows how to help some college students out, by lessening the amount paid per month to be a prime member.
What many don’t know about is the offshoot on Amazon, called AmazonSmile. This part of Amazon allows buyers to put a certain amount of their purchase towards different organizations. Examples are Best Friends Animal Society, American Cancer Society, ASPCA, Heifer International, World Wildlife Fund, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Usually, they take a couple cents (0.5% of the item total) from each eligible product you buy and give it to that organization.
Many may not think that a couple cents are a lot, but when you look at the average amount people buy on Amazon, it could all add up very fast. I buy most things on that I need on Amazon: new sticky notes, a summer bathing suit, my textbooks, gifts, and even some food. I know many people who also buy on Amazon weekly, yet many are not aware of what Amazon Smile can do. If we all picked an organization to donate to and purchased through there instead, think of all the money we could indirectly give to them. Overall, we would be spending the same amount we would have anyway, but this way some of it is helping organization help others.
