A Little Trivia App might be more than it seems...

So, I LOVE most of the Netlfix original content they put out. I love Stranger Things, I adore Bojack Horseman, and of course, I am extremely passionate about Black Mirror. The modern take on the Twilight Zone that has tackled tons of major issues in our society, dealing mostly with technology. Of course, the issues aren't just the compelling part, the characters are also amazing. Form the psychotic computer programmer in USS Callister to the eccentric, Willy Wonka-esque owner of The Black Museum, Rolo Haynes. But above all the best part of Black Mirror is how eerily real it all is. Let me explain.

So part of the beauty of Black Mirror is how timeless it is. Not to say that its timeless like the Wizard of Oz, or Shawshank Redemption, but rather that there's never really a set date on when the episodes are taking place. That got me thinking. Is there anything in our own world that would be reminiscent of Black Mirror? Then it hit me. Like the push notification telling me that it's time to play some trivia. That's right, HQ Trivia.

So for those of you HQ-ties, that are uninitiated, HQ Trivia, is a live trivia game show that is hosted by the loveable (if at times a bit annoying) Scott Rogowsky. The app is free to play, and you can win actual money on the app as well. No need to pay. It's fun, free, and you have nothing to lose! However, due to the push notifications, and the very demanding nature of the app (You only have ten seconds to answer a question), it kind of takes control of you and you're stuck until you lose.

Some people have said that HQ is too intrusive, and others have said that it is the wave of the future. I'm not so sure. I feel that the app is both good and bad. Sure in the evening its something that brings you and your roommates together. You get to play this trivia, and maybe, if you're lucky, you'll beat that twelfth question, and win big! But maybe its pulling us apart, providing unnecessary competition for us all. We'll see. But for now, I accept our trivia overlords. Because I'm still waiting to win that MONEY!!!!!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
