I doubt I‘m the only one who gets tired of listening to the same music all the time. If that’s you, here’s twelve albums or EP’s that I would highly recommend listening to if you haven’t already:
1. Home of the Strange // Young the Giant
Young the Giant’s third studio album combines alternative rock with some electronic elements thanks to the production by Jeff Bhasker, a grammy award winning producer and member of Kanye West’s music label. Home of the Strange is great for all alternative fans.
2. Blood Bank // Bon Iver
Blood Bank is a four song EP that was one of Bon Iver’s first projects. With the band’s innovative use of auto-tune, the EP is almost a decade old, but sounds as if it could’ve been recorded this year.
3. Landmark // Hippo Campus
Hippo Campus is a relatively new and unknown band, but Landmark is incredibly good. I would definitely suggest giving them a listen.
4. Repave // Volcano Choir
Volcano Choir is a band formed in 2005 by Bon Iver lead singer, Justin Vernon. Repave is the second of the bands two albums and has a sound similar to Bon Iver itself.
5. The 1975 // The 1975
The 1975 continues to gain popularity in the U.S., and for good reason. The deluxe version of their debut album is 39 songs long, but definitely worth the time. Watch the 1975 perform Lostmyhead live:
6. Young Mister // Young Mister
Young Mister is one of the most underrated artists in music right now in my opinion. His debut album gives off a retro or throwback feel without sounding outdated.
7. Nostalgia, ULTRA // Frank Ocean
Nostalgia, Ultra is a mixtape released by Frank Ocean in 2011, a year before the eventual release of Channel Orange. The project includes remakes of MGMT’s Electric Feel, Coldplay’s Strawberry Swing, and even Hotel California by The Eagles. The mixtape was originally going to be a seven song EP before the release was later cancelled. Only two songs from the album, Novacane and Swim Good, were released as singles. You can listen to the mixtape at https://oddfuture.bandcamp.com/album/nostalgia-ult...
8. On the Run // Corey Harper
On the run is a six song EP and only takes 20 minutes to listen to all the way through. Harper has an incredible voice and it shows in this EP.
9. Future Generations // Future Generations
Future Generations has a more electronic feel to it and definitely doesn’t sound like mainstream alternative, but it’s sound is really unique; worth the listen.
10. Dopamine // BØRNS
There’s honestly not a song on the entire album that I don’t like.
11. Section.80 // Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick’s second studio album stays pretty much in the shadow’s of his more recent tapes and is often overlooked by fans, but overall its a really good album and deserves more recognition. Kendrick raps about the introduction of crack to the U.S. in the 1980’s and how its influenced America’s drug use problem today. The production is definitely not on the level of his newer albums, but still solid.
12. Sunlit Youth // Local Natives
Sunlit youth is an upbeat alternative album thats good for everyday listening.
