I might be biased but the '90s were truly a sick time to be alive. The fashion, the music, the TV shows, not the vehicles, and the movies were great!
There’s something about a '90s animated film that really resonates with me. One of the things that really impresses me is the variety of styles we see between the films. We see classic 2D animation like "The Iron Giant," more 3D style movies like "Toy Story" or "A Bugs Life," stop-motion from The "Nightmare Before Christmas," and mixed mediums with "Space Jam" and "Beauty and the Beast!"
Below are 19, of what I consider, some of the best films from the '90s!
1. "The Rescuers Down Under."
The Rescuers was one of my favorite series growing up. It was always exciting to see what they got themselves into.
2. "The Rugrats Movie."
The TV show was always good and as such this movie became a must-see for me.
3. "Space Jam."
I didn't watch basketball, but I knew who Michael Jordan and the Loony Toons were--seeing them together was wild.
4. "Toy Story."
I don't even see how this one needs explaining. It's "Toy Story."
5. "Toy Story 2."
6. Pocahontas
Although I know it's not at all accurate from a historical standpoint, some of the songs are on too good to pass up.
7. "Mulan."
Eddie Murphy as a traditional Chinese dragon in a musical empowering women? Yes.
8. "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
The song "This is Halloween" shows up on my playlist like on September 3rd.
9. "The Land Before Time III: The Time of the Great Giving."
I don't think this competes with the first one... but that one came out in the '80s. I think the III is the second best overall which earns it a spot on this list.
10. "The Lion King."
11. "A Bug's Life."
These bugs didn't cure my dislike for insects, but they were at least entertaining.
12. "Fantasia 2000."
Sooo much is going on in this.
13. "A Goofy Movie."
Another classic I couldn't get enough of growing up. The part where Goofy gets onstage and does the perfect cast — too good.
14. "Hercules."
I feel like this one is often overlooked, but I enjoyed the mythology aspect.
15. "The Iron Giant."
I don't know what to say about this one. Who would have thought there could be so much emotion form a giant metal robot.
16. "James and the Giant Peach."
This movie kind of creeped me out at parts as a kid, but every time it's on TV memories sore back in.
17. "Aladdin."
When asked what my favorite Disney movie is I'm always torn between "Toy Story," "Mulan," and "Aladdin."
18. "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West."
I don't really remember what the plot of this was. I just remembered I enjoyed it's Western theme.
19. "Beauty and the Beast."
Another classic with amazing songs. The new live action is even better.
It was hard to cut this list down to only 19 so of course, there are some runners up! "Balto," "Swan Lake," and "Thumbelina"were close to making the list!
