1. Pumpkin Festival
Are you coming in the fall? Well this festival is the best place to go then. I personally love going to the Pumpkin Festival. They have so many food vendors, and they have loads of people selling their special salsa, homemade ketchup, beef jerky, etc. Plus, SO MANY FREE SAMPLES, which is one of the best parts. Located in Milton, WV.
2. Billy Bob's Wonderland
Why yes, you thought they were ancient and belonged in the past. Well nope, we still have one, and they still have the mechanical show(Rock-Afire Explosion) that goes on. I go there every few months just because my baby cousin loves watch Billy Bob and his band perform. She honestly doesn’t even care about playing the arcade games. Located in Barboursville, WV.
3. New River Gorge Bridge
This bridge is massive and crosses a valley from the top of two mountains. It has beautiful views. Also, during bridge day, people from all around go to the bridge and jumps off of it. Now this is a little too adventurous for me, but if you love an adrenaline rush then this is up your alley. (Number 4 has the picture of the New River Gorge Bridge)
4. White Water Rafting
This is a big thing people do when they visit WV. This also goes with the adrenaline rush people. I personally haven’t done this yet, but I’m dying to. When I find enough people, I’m doing it! Best place for this is at the Gauley river.
5. Greenbrier Resort
This resort is one of the most beautiful and historic places I’ve been to. There’s been so many presidents who have stayed there throughout the years. If you don’t want to stay there, even going and visiting the resort is worth it! This resort was created to shelter all of U.S Congress in case there was a nuclear attack under the building. However, in 1992 The Washington Post let the secret out about it. Just between me and you, I think it's way nicer than the White House.
6. Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
During Halloween, this place is always busy! You can even stay the night in this abandoned asylum, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you hate haunted places. I don’t know about you guys, but haunted places really intrigue me. Plus, this place is the largest hand-cut stone masonry building in North America, and second largest in the world. Just think how much it would cost to build that now! Located in Weston, WV
.7. Kenova's Pumpkin House
The perk of living so close to this place, I’ve helped empty out the pumpkins at this place! It is so much fun going here, and seeing all the pumpkins every year! When I was a kid, it was just starting to come around the area about it. Although now, it’s known nationwide. This man gets thousands of pumpkins, has people volunteer to empty, and carve them and puts them up all around his property. Now there’re food vendors that are outside of the home, in case you get hungry!
8. State Capitol Building
Which is located in Charleston, WV. The architectural design throughout it is astonishing. It’s honestly beautiful, and you can tell it took some time and thought into the look of it. Fun fact: a lot of people go here to get their wedding, prom, and graduation pictures! P.S I threw in an extra picture to show you a sneak peek of the inside.
9. Hiking
Now if you’re like myself, you hate the idea of hiking. Although, hiking through WV is one of the most amazing view opportunities you can get. I love going somewhere with a lot of scenic views, and getting so many pictures of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. The most popular place to hike is Dolly Sods, but honestly if you go on any hiking trail you'll most likely see great views.
So if you're trying to find a place to travel to, or coming to WV for a specific reason, I hope this list helps you decide on a few things to do! I hope you find my state as beautiful as I do.
