9 Things Everyone Should Do This Summer

Relax, it's finally summertime

9 Things Everyone Should Do This Summer
Madeline Vojta

Final exams are over, you can finally breathe again. Now you have the whole summer to do whatever you want, don't waste it. There are so many things you can do, run out of ideas? Here are nine things you should do this summer.

1. Sleep

First and foremost you should catch up on sleep. Don't judge me on this, I know it doesn't sound exciting but you survived finals, and even if that was weeks ago you still endured a lot. You need some time to recuperate. So, I may sleep for a week or two (or even three) but it's whatever, I deserve it I'm a survivor.

2. Eat

Once I finally resurrect from my hibernation, I know eating will be the next activity on my list. And I'm not talking McDonald's. Look up cool places to eat in your area, from coffee shops to burger places the possibilities are endless. There is a list I have of local diners, bakeries, ice cream places, cafes and brunch places that I've been dying to try and now that I actually have time, I'm not just going to eat anywhere.

4. Go to the beach

There is nothing I have missed more than the beach so you know that is where I am going to be spending 99 percent of my free time.

5. Read

Again, this may sound boring but I think it might actually be a fun change of pace to read something thats not a textbook or something that isn't mandatory. It's relaxing to read something that you will genuinely enjoy and an added bonus is that it will help expand your mind at the same time (without having to worry about an exam or deadline that comes along with it!)

6. Do something spontaneous.

Some of the best things you can do are completely unplanned so don't stick to a strict routine. It's summer time do something random and spontaneous!

7. Do something you never usually have time to do.

This one is pretty broad, but I feel like we all have something we have wanted try for a while, maybe a hobby or sport, but unfortunately, between classes, exams, assignments and work we don't have the time to try it. Maybe it's yoga, maybe it's cooking, or writing, or running. Whatever it is, when you have some free time this summer you should definitely try it, whatever it is.

8. Adventure

You don't even have to go far, take advantage of what you have near you. Go on a hike or a bike ride and just explore as much as possible.

9. Enjoy every moment.

Summer will not last forever (sadly) so definitely remember to make the most out of every experience you have. Whether it's going to the beach, going to concerts, spending time with friends and family or just working..try to have the most fun you possibly can and make as many memories as possible.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
