I'm a self-admitted "Hamilton" addict. I have listened to the album enough times that I have it memorized, and I will often break into song if someone says something similar to the lyrics of a "Hamilton" tune. I have "Hamilton" art in my dorm and "Hamilton" T-shirts. I am obsessed. Period. There is no denying it. And while this is my first article about "Hamilton, "this definitely won't be the last.
Being the best musical to ever exist (don't even try to argue with me on this), "Hamilton" has some seriously inspiring lyrics. Especially when you apply those lyrics to the life of a typical college student. So grab some headphones, hop on Spotify, and listen to these inspiring "Hamilton" lyrics that will help you get through this semester.
1. "I'm not throwing away my shot" - My Shot
Every time you think of not showing up to that 8 a.m. class or just dropping out of college altogether, think of this song. I believe in you, and Hamilton does too.
2. "Why do you write like you're running out of time?" - Non-Stop
I know, those late night, last minute essays are the worst. But if Hamilton can write like he's running out of time, you can meet those deadlines.
3. "Work!" - The Schuyler Sister
This one is self-explanatory. Do your work.
4. "Dying is easy, young man. Living is harder" - Right Hand Man
Life is hard, but just keep living. It's worth it.
5. "I am the one thing in life I can control" - Wait for It
You definitely don't have control over how much homework your professors are going to assign or what tests you have, but you do have control over yourself. Remember that.
6. "You got more than you gave. And I wanted what I got" - The Room Where It Happens
This is just my power statement. It had to be included.
7. "You don't get a win unless you play in the game" - The Room Where It Happens
That college degree isn't going to earn itself.
8. "I wrote my way out" - Hurricane
If Hamilton can write his way out of a bad situation, you can write your way out of a C in English Literature (just might take some work).
9. "Outrun, outlast, hit 'em quick get out fast" - Stay Alive
You go get that college degree in four years. I believe in you.
