1. The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

This is the story of a shy, talented and quirky girl named Lennie who finds her personal power in the midst of family tragedy. Lennie will become your best friend as you get to know her through her poems, her boy problems, and her unconventional home.

2. Warriors Don't Cry by Melba Beals

The memoir of Melba Beals, a member of the Little Rock Nine. Through the racism and violence thrown at her, Melba was strong and continued the pursuit of her education. Warning: you're going to cry. You're also going to be inspired.

Looking for more pictures and less words? This book does it best. Cohen puts together a collection of vintage women breaking out of their traditional gender roles. These snapshots will leave your female power ignited!
