8 Things You'd Only Understand If You Have Curly Hair

The Struggle of Taming your Mane

Honestly I used to have the straightest hair until I decided to donate it to Locks of Love as a kid. Then all of a sudden, my hair became curly and I've never understood why. Needless to say, I was a 10-year-old trying to navigate the mind field that is curly hair. But after you figure out these 8 basics, it becomes a lot easier to love your hair.

1. Brushing your hair is never to be done.

When you brush your curly hair, it just frizzes and somehow gets more knots in it. After a trial and error period, you've learned that you will never brush your hair ever again. People without curly hair don't understand this but it is essential to taming the mane.

2. When someone asks you if they can touch your hair (which happens more often then you'd think).

I can't even tell you how many time someone has asked me if they can touch my hair. The answer is no. Also that's a weird question to ask someone; so for the sake of all curly haired humans, please don't ask us if you can touch our hair.

3. You have a two step daily routine:

People always ask me what I do to make my hair curly. The answer is quite simple my friends: I shower, throw some product in it, and pray.

4. Your hair has an eerie similarity to Simba's when it rains...

Humidity is a problem for everyone's hair but when you have curly hair you just tend to look like Simba.

5. You know that all hair products lie. Yes, I mean of ALL them.

All products say use a dime-sized amount but you know for a fact that is not true. Sometimes you have to use half the bottle just to look semi presentable.

6. Sometimes you lose things in it.

Bobby pins always go missing and you'll find them hours, weeks, months later.

7. And honestly, your hair taught you an important life lesson:

Let's be serious, you're hair is a constant reminder that things are out of your control. It is both a life lesson and a curse.

8. But when all is said and done, your hair is amazing and you love it (most of the time).

Yes, you have a love-hate relationship with your hair but you couldn't imagine your life with a straight head of hair. Love your curls! They are magnificent and so are you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
