Being an Italian and growing up in a family of Italian cooks, I learned from a young age that there are specific ways to say Italian foods. I grew up pronouncing everything exaggerated and got mad at other people who tried to correct me. Once you know the "right" way to pronounce things you never go back, and I have been saying these words like this all my life. I never truly realized I was pronouncing it differently until my friends started to comment on my exaggerations and funny pronunciations.
So, here are eight Italian foods Italians pronounce funny.
1. Mozzarella (Mooots- a- del)
Only time its (mots-a-rella) is when you order mozzarella sticks
2. Calamari (gaa-laa-maahd)
Sometimes the waiter looks at me funny
3. Proscuitto (pro-shoot-o)
I can never really say this one right
4. Ricotta (re-gout)
Even thoughIm not a big fan of the cheese, Ill never say (ri-cotta)
5. Capocollo (Gaba-gool)
I used to think it was spelt and actually was called (gaba-gool)
6. Pasta e fagioli (pasta vazzool)
Sometimes I would call this "pasta for you" because I couldn't understand my grandma
7. Marinara (mare-eh-nara) or (gravy)
