I was raised in Virginia if anyone knows Virginia the motto is Virginia is for Lovers. Well, I decided to do a little research about my state, wondering what kinds of things could Virginia promote besides being for lovers. Since it is October I decided to look for Halloween activities and found quite a few fun things to do.


1. Spirits of New Market

Virginia has a lot of Civil War history and the perfect place to spend an evening learning about the battles that took place in New Plan a visit to the Virginia Museum of The Civil War, New Market Virginia, follow a guide on a lantern-lit seven station tour of the battlefield. Encounter living historians portraying the soldiers, townsfolk, and a Bushong family. Everyone will have the opportunity to help the wounded, ask questions and experience the battlefield.

2. Farmer's Daughter Maze, Haunted Barn & Trail

Come to the Farmer's Daughter located in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, for their annual attraction. The Farmer's Daughter offers a 3.5 acres corn maze, 2-acre pumpkin patch and it has haunted attractions such as a haunted trail and barn. Farmer's Daughter also has a hayride, animal barn, bonfire, a playground and plenty of picture opportunities.

3. Field of Fear

The Field of Fear is located on the Cox Farm in Centreville, Virginia. Cox Farm's Field of Fear featuring the Darkside Hayride, The Forest, and Cornightmare, the haunted Cornfield walk.The Firegrounds features bonfires, food, music, entertainment, a giant 6 lane slide. 4. Trick or Treating at Mount Vernon

Step back into time and come trick or treating with Martha and George Washington at Mount Vernon in Mount Vernon, Virginia. Have the opportunity to participate in a special scavenger hunt, take a wagon ride on the 12-acre field, and create a bootiful Halloween craft. Attend a special greeting from "Martha Washington," on the piazza of the mansion, 18th century dancing in the upper garden, historic chocolate making, and tasting. This is a great experience for the family, so check out trick or treating at Mount Vernon.

5. Halloween Haunt at Kings Dominion

Everyone knows how much fun Kings Dominion during the summer but did you know that KIngs Dominion offers great Halloween fun. It is open during the weekends for highly intense bone-chilling attractions, imagine enjoying thrill rides as the fog and darkness come in. As darkness approaches ghostly creatures begin emerging, there is bloodcurdling horror, and nightmarish madness happening throughout the park. 6. Things that go Bump in the Night at Henricus

Come to Henricus Historical Park visiting the colonists who lived there between 1607-1622, sit fireside and listen to the colonist talk about their lives in this New Land surrounded by danger, darkness, and uncertain peril. Listen to spellbinding accounts of their European homelands and legendary tales as storytellers relive Old English and Virginia Indian legends and folklore.

7. Howl O Scream at Busch Gardens

Its 6 pm at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg Virginia, all the creepy creatures begin emerging to lie in wait for unsuspecting victims. 8. Haunted Halloween Festival

Come to Virginia Beach, Virginia for the 29th annual Halloween Festival at the Hunt Club Farms, come to the Haunting Hampton Roads. The Haunted Hayride, a slow-moving spine-tingling tour of pitch black woods of Haunted Hunt Club, unprotected from the elements. Listening to things that go bump in the night, experiencing the theatrical displays by dozens of diabolical degenerates along, the narrow winding path through an old barn. The Field of Screams, the dark cornfield is packed full of zombies, getting up close and personal thrill seekers trying to find a way through the maze. Lastly, look out for the creatures from The Village of the Dead, trying to convince victims to become permanent residents of their town of terror.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
