There's hardly a person alive today who hasn't heard an African American spiritual or some version of one. They're uplifting, thought-provoking, and soul-stirring. They transcend time and culture as many of their messages can be interpreted differently. With the different #BHM playlists I've seen on social media, I thought I'd make a list to add to your playlist. Here's a list of eight amazing arrangements of spirituals.

1. Cantus' "Keep Your Lamps"

This arrangement is incredible. The tone is heavy and dark, and it has an overall chain-gang feel. It's reminiscent of the times when non-whites were forced to perform soul- and life-draining tasks for no pay. All they had to carry them through the day, even the hour or minute, was their faith, their hope that they'll be with God for eternity if they don't give up on Him. This song definitely conveys all of that.

2. Cece Winans' "Feel the Spirit"

I love the African vibes of this arrangement, and Cece's voice is amazing. Definitely uplifting.

3. James Rose's "Ezekiel Saw Da Wheel"

This acapella cover will take you to church.

4. Wingate University Singers' "My Soul's Been Anchored in the Lord"

If you haven't heard any of the Wingate choirs, you're missing out. The Wingate University Singers did a fantastic job with this performance.

5. Moses Hogan's "Hold On"

Soulful, powerful, chilling- those are just a few words to describe this performance by the Northridge Singers. The sopranos in this are phenomenal, as well.

6. Moses Hogan's "Joshua Fit De Battle of Jericho"

This arrangement mimics the chaos of battle really well, and the delivery is powerfully-executed. Definitely worth your watch.

7. Sweet Honey in the Rock's "Wade in the Water"

This female group is incredible on so many levels, and this performance definitely attests to that. And can we just talk about the female bass for a sec???

8. J. David Moore's "Will the Circle Be Unbroken"

This performance by the WI State Honors Chorus is beautiful, and they'll take you to church, too.

I'd encourage you to check out more spirituals or even more performances by the artists on this list. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
