9 People You Have No Idea You'll Miss Until After Graduation

#9, I promise

graduation

We all knew that we would miss our best friends and the people we always hung out around, but sometimes the people you miss sneak up on you.

1. The kid that always smiled in the hall

You can think of one right now if you tried. Maybe you never spoke to them, but you should have. They were the one who made your bad days so much better, even if they never knew it.

2. The kids that went way too hard at pep rallys

Was it slightly obnoxious? Ok, maybe. Did they love it? Absolutely. There are only so many times you can cover yourself in paint and call it socially acceptable. If you didn't take advantage of that, you should have.

3. The janitor that always smiled at you

This is another one that you definitely didn't appreciate enough. Not only were they nice to you, they were nice to you even after picking up after you and your gross classmates. That is a brave human being.

4. The teacher you thought would actually be the death of you

There were multiple teachers who I expected to be in my obituary. There were a few times I thought about faking Ebola to miss their class. Yet here I am, starting college, and I look around and I am so much better prepared than some of my clueless peers. Do I fully understand calculus or AP chemistry? Nope. Did taking the class make a better student because I had to learn to work harder? Absolutely.

5. The mean girl, cause we all knew one

That girl who said mean things for seemingly no reason? You may have not appreciated her at the time, but she toughened you up. After graduation the things she said are laughable and have zero hold on you. Maybe we didn't appreciate her attitude, but we can be thankful for the life lesson.

6. The class clown, despite wanting to kill them in class

Did they distract you and get on your nerves? YES, and it was obnoxious. But it was also goofy, and kinda funny, and you'd kill to go back to sitting behind them in those uncomfortable desk.

7. The teacher whose class you always hung out in

There was always that one class you could go to when you didn't actually want to go to class. There was always some teacher who was willing to let you hide in their class room and maybe even spot you a pass every now and then when you were late. They were the real MVP, and the main reason you didn't have a break down.

8. The kid that was super in to things you weren't

For me this was the kids who were crazy good at music and band. I was perhaps the least musically inclined human being at my school, but there's something about watching someone get excited over something you can't relate to in any way. You can't get caught up in the concept, but you can defiantly appreciate the joy on their face.

9. The office ladies

Don't lie. These women (or men) CARRIED YOU your senior year. They saw you every time you came in 30 minuets late with contraband coffee. They saw you every time you came running in hoping to catch the councilor. They saw you and they spoke so much needed encouragement. They were the grandmothers we all wished we had, and they were the first ones to happy dance when your got good news.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
