Recently I started a new organization on campus. It has kept me about the busiest I’ve ever been in my young adult life. So, I obviously needed to find new ways to stay as organized as possible, and fast. My team requires lots of updated and accurate information in order to be run properly. Therefore, I came up with ways to assure myself that organization will literally never be a problem for me ever again. Some of these tips may come off as a no-brainer, but these are what I found is working for me best!

1. Utilizing folders

I’m not just talking about actual folders that you carry around in your backpack. I’m talking about folders on your laptop. For my organization, I have a separate folder dedicated to it. Inside of that folder are numerous other folders, all labeled differently. It is so easy for me to find everything I need for meetings, updated email information or lists of any kind.

2. Turning on all notifications

Nothing on my phone is silenced, not even my phone itself. Always at least keep your phone on vibrate, even if it bugs your teacher. Just explain that you’re just trying to be a successful, available, extra successful young adult. And if they don’t vibe with it, tough.

3. Your email is your new best friend.

Sometimes you don’t always have everyone’s cell phone number. If you’re running an organization, you probably should. It’s most likely the quickest way to get ahold of people as some don’t check their email 25/8 like you do. Yes, I said 25/8 because I make extra hours out of my day.

4. Storage space for everything

I’ve always been an extremely neat person. Even since I’ve started college, I still make my bed every day. Right there, that shows dedication to cleanliness, just saying. Everything really needs to have its own place. Why? Because you will be able to find it and remember where you stashed it without a second thought.

5. Color coordinate everything.

This may seem really dumb, but it’s dumb if you don’t. Seriously, pen color, sticky notes, papers, everything! Again, it will just be a lot easier to find things this way. 10/10 would recommend. I color coordinate my closet and can always find stuff. I get made fun of, but at least I’m never late to class because I can find my clothes.

6. Remove all clutter.

Always get rid of unnecessary things. Items, papers, emails, everything. That way you can make more room for the things that actually matter. With spring right around the corner, you’ll get the fever to clean, we all do.

7. Get a whiteboard.

I have one over my desk and write a to-do list for the day. I usually erase it in the evening when the day is over and write what I have to do for the next day. That way I wake up and already know what needs to get done.

There are so many things you can utilize for your own benefit, and may not even think of it.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
