Often times when people hear "Oxford, Ohio," and "Miami University," they tend to remember Brick Street and New Bar. Though I will admit that I spend a lot of my weekends there as well, sometimes I feel that Oxford residents and students need a break from the alcohol. Here is a list of all the things there are to do in Oxford that don't involve drinking.
1. You're Fired!
You're Fired! is located at 6 N Beech St, Oxford, OH 45056. This is a community-run pottery painting shop. The company sells the individual pieces they allow you to paint. Then they will fire it to set the paint and will return it to you about two weeks later. Voila! You have new art for your dorm room.
2. Oxford Bowling Lanes
Oxford Bowling Lanes is located at 4340 Oxford Reily Rd, Oxford, OH 45056. Oxford Lanes offers league bowling and open bowling. On Friday and Saturday nights, glow bowling is a major draw for the community!
3. Hueston Woods
Hueston Woods is located at 6301 Park Office Road, College Corner, OH 45003. Hueston Woods has many different activities you can be involved in such as horseback riding, canoe and kayak rentals, a golf course and lodging.
4. Butterfield Farms
Butterfield Farms is located at 4000 Oxford Trenton Rd, Oxford, OH 45056. This is a predominately fall-based visit. With a corn maze, hay ride and cows that you can feed, it is the perfect fall getaway for a big group or a babysitting adventure.
5. Oxford Parks and Recreation
Oxford Parks and Recreation is located at 6025 Fairfield Rd, Oxford, OH 45056. They have many different outside activities. There is a skate park, swimming pool, playground and even a basketball court.
6. Splash Fountains
Splash Fountains are located in Uptown Oxford's Freedom Park. Though it seems fun for younger generations, it is great for an unusual night for college-age students as well. Make a picnic and spend the night just hanging out in the park.
7. Oxford Hookah Lounge
Oxford Hookah Lounge is located at 15 N Beech St, Oxford, OH 45056. It is my favorite hidden gem in Oxford. They have over 25 kinds of different Shisha to smoke and you can mix anything you want together. The hookah lounge also has amazing Middle Eastern tea, coffee, hummus and other small treats.
Though it doesn't always seem like it, there are many great things to do in Oxford besides going to bars. Try a dry weekend sometime soon and hit up one of these 7 great locations!
