Have you ever thought about taking a theatre class at some point in your academic career? Well, you're not alone. Plenty of students have pondered the idea of taking a class that involves the students to actually be social. So here are, in my opinion, 7 reasons why you should take a theatre class in college or high school.

1. It will help you out in the real world with social interaction.

When you take theatre, you’ll have to do some acting at some point, depending on the class. Having those acting skills will help you become more interactive with the real world and even if you don’t like it you can act your way through it.

2. It will broaden your horizons.

Theatre is a like one big group project, at one point you will have to come out of your shell and contribute to the class. Theatre class will force you to shed your shyness and be more open to individuals and the rest of the class.

3. You get to make new friends.

With the coming out of your shell comes new friends. You will have the perfect chance to meet other people who share either the same love of theatre or the same resentment as you do. It just all depends how open you decide to be or how open the teacher forces you to be.

4. If you didn’t like acting then, you may like it more now.

Let’s all be real here, if you take theatre you’ll have to act at some point. To some acting can be the one thing that stops them from taking theatre but it’s not as scary as it seems. When you are on the stage, you’re not the scared kid, you’re the hero of the story about to solve a crime.

5. Taking the class can lead to bigger things.

If you’re wanting to pursue a career in acting or just wondering about it, then taking a theatre class is a good first step. You’ll have the opportunity to learn the basics of acting and what it takes to be in a play or TV and movies.

6. You can learn valuable life skills.

Theatre isn’t just getting up on a stage and spitting out Shakespeare, it consists of many different elements. Depending on what course you take, you can learn anything from costume design to learning how to build an entire set. Theatre is so much more than getting through a play, it’s learning valuable skills that may help you in the future.

7. You all become a family.

When you audition for a play and get the part, hopefully, you will be spending a lot of time with your fellow actors and actresses. You all start to grow a connection with your same love of the acting arts. You get to share a huge bond with each other and hopefully, they will be future friends and future cast mates.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
