7 Things That Happen When You Leave Your Little Sister For College

A good portion of my life was spent with an older and a younger sister. I am very grateful to have the sisters that I have, even though we fight a lot. I think one of the hardest parts of college was leaving my little sister behind, and having to do life without her around all the time. Since starting college, I have started to notice some common themes with my little sister since I have been away.

1. She will say “you abandoned me”

Uhm first of all that is not how college works. I swear I did not up and leave you, just because I wanted to Madison.

2. She will get spoiled by your parents

Spoiled as in she has been to Texas De Brazil three times (maybe more) since I have started college and I have been twice in my life. Its fine, I’m fine.

3. She will tell you everything your parents do for her that they didn’t do for you

“Shelby guess what I’m doing with mama and daddy.”

“Shelby mama and daddy took me to (insert expensive place I have never been here).”

4. When you come home/when she visits she will be happy to see you for maybe a second and then she will be fine

Several times when I have come home and walked in the house she has literally said, “Oh no, you’re back.” No hug no nothing. I think I got more love from her in high school when I got back from softball practice.

5. She won’t call or text you

Literally never.I have maybe gotten two texts that say “hi.” Then when I respond I get no reply.

6. She’ll take your room

And by default your identity. There was an actual reason for this one and I knew it was coming, but the timing still seems a little suspicious if you ask me.

7. You will still love her and miss her a little more each day

College is completely different when you don’t have that weirdo of a little sister to bother you every day, but it makes the time you do get to see her that much better. Sometimes it's hard being away and not always knowing what is going on, but when you do get to see each other and hang out, it’s pretty sweet.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
