Siblings. You can't get rid of them and you can't live without them. When it all comes down to it, you've spent the majority of your life with these people, and they probably know you better than anyone else. If nothing else, you have a plethora of shared experiences. While no two families are exactly the same, there are a number of things said between siblings that I'm sure almost every family has said one time or another.
1. "Are you gonna finish that?"
Food might just be one of the most fought-over topics among siblings. Who got more, who deserves what, etc. So of course, one of the most asked questions is going to be whether your sibling is going to finish whatever snack they were working on, whether they were actually planning on finishing it or not. This question is closely related to "I call the last one," often leading to some sort of fight.
2. "I was here first."
We all want the front seat of the car, the best seat on the couch, etc. And inevitably, when you find yourself in that situation, your sibling will come along and challenge you for that privilege. And you have to assert your dominance, claim your right to stay as you were there first, and call upon any dibs were they taken.
3. "I'm taking a shower." "Not if I get there first."
So begin the common precursor words to the amazing race (or at least, that's what it felt like). As soon as someone announces they're going to take a shower, the other immediately decides they need one too, and the race is on. The faster person wins.
4. "You look terrible."
You have no qualms with telling your sibling the unpolished truth about their appearance. Whether they actually look terrible or you're just trying to be a pest, you never hesitate to make a dig at your sibling.
5. "What did you do with my [item]?"
Something of yours has gone missing. A shirt, a phone charger, a hairbrush, or whatever it may be. And you know your sibling took it. Half of being a sibling is taking your sibling's things and asking for your stuff back. Your sibling has taken your stuff so many times you wonder why they don't just get it for themselves. But what would be the fun in that?
6. "Pick that up."
Whether it be a sock, a phone, or a TV remote, and whether it belongs to you or your sibling, you try to get your sibling to do things for you whenever possible, and there's always some sort of satisfaction in getting them to do what you want. Albeit, your chances of success vary a lot depending on your sibling and the situation, but moments like this seem to happen a lot.
7. "You're the worst."
Yes, the hatred is always there. Whether you actually meant it, you were being sarcastic, or were just slightly annoyed, almost everyone with a sibling has said this at one point or another. Siblings can be one of the greatest sources of annoyance and frustration, and at that moment they can truly seem like the worst. But in most cases, you never really mean it. Siblings can be a bit much at times, but in the end, "You're the worst" can truly turn into an affectionate statement.
