6 Things That Happen While Living In The Dorms Freshmen Year

Freshman year is scary, especially going in not knowing anyone. And for the most part, our roommates are the first friends we make. We spend nine months living with another human all alone for the first time in our lives. New neighbors, new rooms, and new expectations. Living in dorms freshman year is a whole new experience, sometimes it can be great and other times, not so great.

1. Loud noises at all hours:

This is particularly annoying, especially when your neighbors decide to vacuum at 2am or blare music. People constantly running down the hallway, slamming doors and screaming. All of this can be more than annoying, but it comes with living with 50 other kids just doors away from your own.

2. New friends:

With all the new neighbors, there are tons of friends that can be made. Anyone's bound to go eat lunch with you if you just ask. Whether you meet someone by opening your door, in the laundry room, or just because you baked some amazing chocolate cookies in the lobby; everyone a friend until proven otherwise.

3. Binge watching shows with the roomie:

Imagine, the lonely nights where its just you and your roomie after a long day of class and studying. You binge watch Rick and Morty for the fourth night in a row because honestly, you cannot do anything else that involves thinking or using your brain. This seems to happen every night, but neither of you complain or suggest anything else so I guess it's another night of Hulu.

4. Always sick:

Close contact with other college students causes many germs to spread. With weak immune systems, sickness is bound to take over. This usually happens either at the end of first semester or the beginning of second semester. With that being said, attendance is far too important to miss class just because you have the flu…(NOT) but seriously, students will go to class even if they are running a fever or they were up all night throwing up. Either way, wash your hands kids and don't get sick.

5. Someone always sleeps/sit in your bed without permission

Knowing your bed was slept in while you were away is the worst feeling ever, especially when the culprite didn't even take the time to make it like it was before. Also, all their skin cells and oils all over your sheets...nasty.

6. Recycling and garbage piles up (Literally)

Over the weeks, garbage can build up really fast. We all know the routine, you look one day and it's barely even filled and then BOOM its overflowing and up the wall before you know it. This is the most dreadful part, now you have to walk down the hallway wearing your polar bear PJs and slippers while everyone stares at all the trash.

Living in the dorms freshman year of college contains some of the most unique and amazing experiences. Even if there are some cons, there are always pros to outweigh them. Overall, the dorm experience is crazy fun, and terrifying all at the same time!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
