Symphonic Metal is a genre that combines orchestra elements with Heavy Metal. Usually, bands from this genre use an actual orchestra, or piano, or just symphonic stuff. This genre features female vocalists that have classical singing training or opera. However, each band from the genre is different as some uses an orchestra or a more theatrical sound. Overall, it's a really good combination and the music ends up being really good.
1) Nightwish- Nemo
Nightwish is a Symphonic Power Metal band from Finland. Formed in 1996, they became one of the major bands with their debut album. This song is taken from their fifth album titled "Once" which was the last album featuring original vocalist Tarja before her departure from the band.
2) Nightwish- Elan
Another Nightwish song, but this features their third vocalist Floor Jensen from their 2015 album "Endless Forms Most Beautiful". The song style is a bit different from previous albums and the song does have a folk tone to it. The folk tone and element along with Jensen's vocals make it mesh and come out beautiful.
3) Within Temptation- Memories
Within Temptation are another major Symphonic Metal band formed in 1996. They were originally a Death-doom band but abandoned the sound for Symphonic Metal with their second album. Taken from their third album "Silent Force" which is my favorite album from them. The song and music video is about an elderly woman who is taken back to her younger self in her memories of her house.
4) Leaves' Eyes- Across The Sea
Leaves' Eyes are another Symphonic Metal band based in Germany. Their lyrical content is mostly Vikings, Norse mythology, Nature, and History. The song has that epic, catchy, empowering atmosphere and vibe. The song does include death growls that serve as backing vocals.
5) Epica- Illusive Consensus
Taken from Epica's 2003 debut album "The Phantom Agony", featuring a string orchestra and choir. In Epica, the lead singer Simone Simmons uses mezzo-soprano vocals throughout this album and the next 2 Epica albums. This song will be good for those who are listeners of classical music and orchestras.
6) Delain- Here Come The Vultures
This has to be my favorite album and song from Delain. This is taken from their 2014 album "The Human Contradiction" when compared to the other songs on this list, this is heavier but has the symphonic sound to it.
Symphonic Metal is really beautiful, as it has the orchestra, symphonic elements with the classical trained or opera vocals. This list had some of the symphonic songs that have orchestra, growls and other that make them different from each other. Despite, being in the same genre they all have different sounds.
