I read a lot. Like so much it's crazy. Books really appeal to me, and I think they are really fun to read. Certain books have profound effects on me in ways I couldn't imagine. Books can transport you to another world, another place and time. There are so many great authors in the world, but these ten are the best and most inspiring towards writing in general.
#1: John Green
Many know John Green from The Fault in our Stars, but this author has written many other books that are phenomenal as well. Each book goes deeper into a common issue. When I read Looking for Alaska, I stayed up till 2 in the morning just to finish the book. That's how good John Green is. He also addresses issues people are afraid to address, like cancer and mental illnesses.
#2: Rick Riordan
Most notable for his Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan is an amazing writer of fantasy, mostly focusing on the Greek and Roman Gods/Goddesses. I have read most of his books, and they are one of my favorite series. I especially like how he incorporates other characters from his books into new pieces of writing.
#3: Kiera Cass
Kiera Cass is the absolute sweetest author ever. I am super obsessed with her series The Selection. I love her cross between The Bachelor and The Hunger Games. The books have a great combination of romance and comedy. This series is one of my favorites of all time!
#4: Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games was one of my favorite books growing up. Suzanne Collins wrote one of the hit trilogies of the decade, even turning them eventually into blockbuster movies. Suzanne is also a force on Twitter, standing up for what she believes in and what's right. These books have a great plot and are a really good read.
#5: Chris Colfer
After starring on Glee, Chris Colfer decided to become an author. His fantasy based books take readers to another world and on an adventure. Chris also has other books such as Struck by Lightning (now a movie), and one of my favorite books of all time: Stranger Than Fanfiction. The Land of Stories is a really great series for all ages.
#6: J.K. Rowling
If you don't know J.K. Rowling, you must be living under a rock. The world-famous Harry Potter author is a force to be reckoned with. With 7 books and 8 blockbusters under her belt, Rowling uses her platform for good. She also is known to use Twitter to deal with backlash and hate.
