5 Ways to Maximize Your Summer While Home

Just because your summer is being spent at home, doesn't mean it doesn't have the potential to be worthwhile.

5 Ways to Maximize Your Summer While Home

Everyone's summer looks different from one another's. Some people are studying abroad. Some people have internships or are working full time. Some are simply doing nothing and enjoying each day of freedom. While all these are great ways to spend the summer, here are five other ways to maximize your summer.

Join a gym

As someone who recently completed their freshman year, I can say the Freshman 15 is a myth that does have some truth to it. The summer is a great time to get back into the physical shape you would like without the added pressures of college. If you are not someone who is good at working out on your own or simply do not know where to start, then maybe join a place that has group classes. I currently am at a gym that offers group classes but has previously done Pure Barre as well. Both have been great for me.

Take a summer class

It may not be too late to sign up to take a course at your community college whose class width does not spread the entire summer. Taking just one class could end up freeing you more in the upcoming fall semester.

Read more often

With work piling up during college, it can be easy to forget about doing other things that you enjoy when they have no impact on your grades in college. Summer can be a time to read more often. Maybe read a genre of books you have never read or read a book by an author you have yet to read from. Whatever you choose to read can be of more enjoyment than you had originally planned.

Try new things

Maybe with your free time go visit places in your hometown that you have never been. Or take the time to travel to a nearby city that you have never been to before!

Cherish times with family and friends

Once in college, you will no longer see your family and friends from home every day. Make the most of it being easier to see them this summer and just truly enjoy their company. You will be glad you did once you return to college.

August will be here before we know it. We will then be heading back to college. Let's make our time at home this summer enjoyable!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
