5 Things That You Can Do To Be More Comfortable with Yourself

We are constantly being bombarded by the media’s perception of beauty. However, what is presented as beautiful often lacks diversity and the need to fit the standards of beauty sometimes makes us forget that we are beautiful no matter what. Here are 5 things you can do to be more comfortable with yourself:

1. Don’t weigh yourself too often.

If you don’t have a good reason to keep track of your weight, then there’s no need to keep torturing yourself. You are more than just a number, and as long as you are comfortable with your weight you are OK. I usually just weigh myself when I visit my doctor, and I let him tell me if my weight falls within the parameters of someone of my age and height. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with knowing your own weight, however, always remember that numbers don’t define who you are.

2. Buy an extra pair of jeans.

The good thing about skinny jeans is that you can always go one size up and they will still fit. In my case, I have a combination of skinny jeans of my size, and others that are one size bigger than what I normally wear, I called them the comfortable pairs. I usually wear them as a way to keep track of my measures. If my skinny jeans start to feel too tight I can just make the switch to my collection of comfortable pairs, instead of condemning myself to only sweatpants like Regina George in "Mean Girls."

3. Buy clothes with someone else.

I know that this can make you feel a little uncomfortable sometimes, especially if you are like me and you enjoy your privacy. However, having someone to go shopping with you generally means that you will have someone to cheer you up and make the stressful process of buy clothing a little bit less painful. Also, one of the advantages of shopping with some else is that they will see you in a different way, and will let you know about things that you might ignore while trying out some clothes.

4. Look in the mirror more often.

Start looking at yourself more often and realize that you are beautiful just the way you are! And listening to Bruno Mars while you do it just adds to the experience. Sometimes it is good to just play with mirror and admire yourself. You can even sing as loud as you want and dance because nobody is watching, it’s just you and the mirror.

5. Take more pictures of yourself.

I didn’t like to take pictures of myself because I always thought that I wasn’t photogenic. However, I learned that the secret to a good picture is a good angle, and the only way that you are going to discover yours is by taking pictures of yourself. You don’t have to share them with anyone if you don’t want to, but taking them can be fun and you can play with some goofy filters. Finally, they are a good way to track how you have changed physically over the last couple of years and what styles look better on you.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
