5 Things I Learned At A Beyoncé Concert

The most important relationship you have is with yourself.

Everyone knows who Queen B is, but not everyone actually gets to experience the power of her presence, the talent of her performance or the inspiration of her words in person. While at the Beyoncé concert I learned many things but here are a few of my favorites.

1. The most important relationship you have is with yourself.

Beyoncé sings a song titled “Me, Myself And I”. This song talks about how she went through a difficult break up and she had to become her own best friend in order to get through this. Before she sang this song at the concert she told everyone in the stadium that having a good relationship with yourself is all you need to get through difficult situations.

2. I’m a survivor.

Another song that she performed at the concert was “Survivor”. Before she sang this song she tells that were all survivors. Whether it be a bad relationship, or a disease, everyone has survived a difficult situation at some point in their life. This is something everyone should take pride in; you have the strength to overcome this difficult time and there is joy in your future.

3. Empowering women is way more important than I thought.

Beyoncé didn’t exactly say this, or perform a song about this but she does truly support the empowerment and equality of women. There are fewer female artists than there are male artists. Watching how talented she was and seeing how hard she had worked to get where she really is an inspiration to any woman trying to achieve her dreams.

4. Music is extremely powerful.

I’ve been to a number of concerts where I have discovered this to be true, and the Beyoncé concert just confirmed this once again. I have found that when I don’t know what to say, I can find songs that can say it for me. I know this is true for many people, while watching Queen B in amazement I could relate to many of the songs she performed and they put many of my feelings into words.

5. Concerts can make dreams come true.

Although I am a Beyoncé fan, I was definitely not as big of a fan as two of my friends that attended the concert with me. I remember when I saw my favorite band for the first time I experienced that moment of pure bliss where the dream of seeing them in real time had come true. While at this Beyoncé concert I got to witness this moment first hand. My two friend’s had one of their dreams come true when they heard the first note of Beyoncé singing they couldn’t help but cry. Getting the opportunity to see Beyoncé perform in concert was one of their biggest dreams, and I got the opportunity to witness it come true. To me, this made the concert so much more enjoyable. I remember exactly how I felt when I experienced this moment, and witnessing the tears roll down their cheeks I experienced my moment vicariously through them all over again. If you ever get the chance to experience this, or witness this, take it, you won’t regret it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
