5 Things I Have Learned In 2016

The year 2016 is coming to an end and I couldn't be more excited to finally end this dreadful year and start another chapter in my life. This year has taught me a lot of stuff not only about me but about life. Here are 5 things I have learned in 2016.

1. You can't change yourself for someone else.

This year I have realized that I try and change myself to fit in with either a certain crowd or a common fade. I decided to change that about myself. If I am going to change it is going to be for me and no one else. I no longer want to try and fit in with the newest trends. That is what makes me unique; being different.

2. Everything happens for a reason.

So many things have happened this year. I got in many arguments that I wish I could go back and either change something different or handled it differently. When mistakes happen like that you learn what to do next time and handle a different situation better.

I recently left my job at Stride Rite that I have worked for over 3 years and I just got a new job outside of what I am used to and I am so excited to start this new chapter in my life.

3. Sometimes the support you need is from people you didn't expect it to come from.

I really thought the only support I needed was from my family and friends. Well turns out the support I really needed was my work support. Everyone at Stride Rite helped me conquer things I didn't believe I would be able to conquer. They were so supportive of all my new life changes and even gave me some advice. So a huge shout out to Danielle, Melissa, Tom, and everyone else. I wouldn't know where I would be if I didn't have the support you guys gave me. I miss you all!

4. Traveling makes you feel free

This past summer I was able to study abroad for two weeks in Italy and Greece. Since I have been back all I want to do is travel. I love the way it made me feel. I learned so much about the different cultures and how every place is unique and I cannot wait to head back to Italy and travel to even more places.

5. Friends come and go, and it's not always a bad thing.

I have lost a lot of friends or I have gained new ones. Sometimes it takes a while for you to realize what friends are toxic and which ones are genuine. And sometimes if you lose a friend over something stupid it is possible to gain them back.

365 days of new realizations and 365 days of new lessons. Everyday I learn something new, so bring on 2017. I am ready to take on a new year.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
