You've had (at least) two weeks to do that ten-page research paper, so, naturally, that means you've left it until the night before it's due to actually do it.
Forget about the "morning after," let's talk about the "night before." Below, the five "D's" that describe the process of doing a paper the night before it's due.
1. Denial
Nope, you definitely didn't leave the whole paper until the night before it was due to start it, right? That couldn't make sense! You must've begun it last week and just forget about the part you already did. This is absurd. Do you think the professor really meant it had to be ten pages or will doing a solid six be enough? The worst part: Riverdale is on tonight and now you have to miss it.
2. Determination
Honestly, how hard can this be? You're going to sit down, turn off your phone, and you'll be able to knock this bad boy out in a few hours. Ten pages isn't even that bad. You've got Google, Wikipedia and "copy and paste" on your side and you are feeling unstoppable. Nothing can get in between you and this paper.
3. Despair
Turns out, ten pages IS that bad. EVERYTHING can get in the way of you and this paper. Also, you never turned your phone off. Why is everyone suddenly choosing this exact moment to text you? It's like everyone wants you to fail. There is nothing good in the world. You hate everything and everyone, and you feel like everything and everyone hates you right back.
4. Disregard
So be it. Who cares. Is this paper really going to matter in the long run? Didn't think so. All you need is to bang out a couple more pages and you will be done. It doesn't actually have to be good, as long as you have something on paper. The end is almost in sight. You can finally stop holding your breath.
5. Delight
Mission impossible has been completed. GOD BLESS AMERICA. Shout and sing it from the rooftops, because you are DONE (the most important "D" word.) On second thought, don't shout or sing it from any open area, because it's 2 AM and your neighbors might have a heart attack. Or call the police. Anyway, all is right in the world again. Goodnight.
