I'm biased, but you knew that.
I love writing for The Odyssey and want others to experience the joy that it brings. In the hope of recruiting more writers, here is why you should consider writing for The Odyssey Online.
1. Community
The Odyssey is fundamentally a community of writers. Joining The Odyssey gives you a voice and a platform to share it with the benefit of supportive fellow writers and editors. You are not left alone, floating on an endless sea of ideas (unless you isolate yourself), but welcomed.
2. Practice
The Odyssey is a way to practice writing. Its flexibility enables writers to experiment with different writing styles and genres. In this way, it makes you a better writer.
3. Discipline
This is closely associated with number 2. The Odyssey offers accountability to write consistently. With a new article due each week, writing becomes a habit. As the habit grows, writing becomes something you show up and do. For me, this has removed a great deal of fear from writing. No longer does writing feel like a monumental task.
4. Means to Pursue Truth
Writing for The Odyssey has given me the space to process the things I have been thinking about and studying in class. It has helped me solidify my own opinions and present arguments for them. In this way, The Odyssey promotes introspection and thought to what matters and is true.
5. Experience
This one is somewhat selfish, I admit. Writing for The Odyssey is a great way to boost your resume, with very little time commitment. I spend (on average) two hours a week writing. This adds up over time. I now have a lot of published articles I can use as examples of my writing. The Odyssey also makes me a published writer. I find this invaluable.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to write for The Odyssey Online. I've been writing for The Odyssey for 9 months now, and I hope to continue until I graduate. Thank you, The Odyssey, for providing a platform that is user friendly and fosters a community, where ideas can be shared.
