During my senior year of high school, I got really interested in sewing because I felt that it would be a cool skill to have and it looked fun to try out. My grandmother has a sewing machine and she has been making me clothing ever since I was born, so I figured that it would be very easy to pick up and learn. Plus, I already had a teacher readily available. Since first learning to sew, I have made many really cool items that I am really proud of, and I encourage everyone to try it out for themselves!

1. It's fun!

Sewing is a lot of fun once you get into it. I am the first to admit that it could be a little frustrating when you first begin, but that can be fixed with a little practice. Sewing is one of those things that get better with practice, but trust me, once you know what you are doing or have a general idea of what you are doing, it can be a really rewarding experience.

2. It's a creative outlet in which you can express yourself!

Do you feel that it is impossible to find clothing that fits your style in stores? The great part about sewing is that you can make whatever you want in whatever style you want. After learning how to sew with different prints and patterns, the possibilities are endless.

3. It’s really gratifying wearing something that you knew you made.

There is nothing more satisfying than someone coming up to you to tell you they like what you are wearing and you telling them that you made it yourself. One of the greatest aspects of making your own clothes is that it will be completely unique and no one else would have the same thing.

4. It gives you a chance to upcycle items you already own.

Nothing worse than having to give up your favorite article of clothing because it is too small or it doesn’t look as good as it once did. When you are able to sew, you would be able to give your favorite items of clothing a new life as something else that you can continue to wear. You will be great at fixing other people’s clothes.

5. You will be the coolest kid with the coolest Instagram feed.

Trust me, there is nothing cooler than posting your own creations online. You would be able to create your own style and look that you can share with other people. You also will be able to foster a community with other people that have similar interests and fashion styles that you have.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
