5 Reasons Why WCU Loves John At Einstein's

John Berberich, West Chester University's very own bagel man. He is at the hub of campus taking bagel orders while telling hysterical stories about his wife, his life, and everything in between. Recently, John from Einstein's was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm and his future procedure has been a hot topic for the bagel line. As soon as word broke out, the West Chester students started a Go Fundme For John which has already raised over $13,000.

This news has impacted West Chester University drastically because so many people look forward to seeing John at Einstein's. He's built a relationship with the majority of campus and is know for his constant kindness and comedic relief. Which is why we want to support him because he's the best!

So here's our tribute to John; the five reasons we love John at Einstein's:

1. He remembers your name and order.. or at least tries to.

Getting to know us on first name basis is definitely not in his job description. He truly cares about the people passing through the line, which is why going to Einstein's is such a lighthearted, pleasant experience.

2. His jokes never change, but they never fail to make you laugh.

Somedays, it takes a century for the Einstein's line to move. No matter how long you wait, John makes sure that you are always entertained. Between his wacky jokes and humorous stories, there is never a dull moment in the Einstein's line. Here's a few of my friends and I's favorites:

"You know what my wife said to me last night? Here's a beer, I spent the entire day writing your obituary."

"What's a cow without legs? Ground beef."

"Hey, you have a tag hanging out. I think it says you were made from heaven."

-Quotes directly from John Berberich

3. He goes the extra mile.

John could just be the guy that takes our bagel orders, but that would be boring. He keeps a conversation with almost everyone that goes through the line, which makes his day and yours. Going to Einstein's is a win-win for all.

4. His positivity instantly puts you in a better mood.

If you're looking for someone to take your order and send you on your way, Einstein's isn't the place for you. John is in your face with a wide smile, a cackling laugh, and a great attitude: always. John doesn't let much bring him down which motivates many of us to act the same way.

5. He doesn't have to care but does a whole lot.

Whether you visit Einstein's every day or once in a blue moon, you recognize there's something neat about John. That's because he doesn't just do his job. He goes out of his way to build a relationship with the students passing through, and he doesn't have to do that. But because he has put others first, this relationship has caused a change reaction. John's kindness and compassion are coming full circle as the student's of West Chester University are coming together to help him.

Once again, here is a link to support John as he undergoes a high-risk surgery for a brain aneurysm this summer. He is there for us, day in and day out, working hard and brightening our mornings, so it's only right that we are there for him.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
