5 Reasons To Adopt A Dog

My family recently decided to adopt a dog, I had always wanted a dog since our other dog was put down years ago. Yet it wasn't until recently that my parents were on board. So we looked online for different breeds of dogs until we saw the perfect dog at the best shelter. We adopted our dog from Dream House Rescue, who bring their dogs to the local PetSmart. Ever since we brought him home, we have been in love. So here are 5 reasons why you should adopt from a shelter.

1. You give a dog a new home

Of course, shelter dogs have had been owned by another owner, which can make people scared that they aren't trained well or aren't well tempered. But giving a dog a new home can feel so rewarding for you. You can give a dog, who would otherwise sit in a shelter all day, a new chance at a great life.

2. Dogs make people happy

I'm not a scientist, but I can attest to dogs making people happier. Every time I see someone else's dog, I'm immediately in a better mood. I'm not sure if it's their excited personality or just the fluffiness of their bodies. but dogs make every day better.

3. You get a new best friend

Dogs not only love you unconditionally if you take care of them right, but they also become your instant best friend. And who doesn't want a new best friend? My dog is for sure my best friend, he loves to nap all day and go on long walks in the woods. Which are my two favorite things as well

4. Dogs can help people live longer

Again, not a scientist, but there's a myth that dogs help people live longer; which I totally believe is true. Having a dog gives you a need to go outside, exercise, and be responsible. All of those things make for you and your dog to live a longer life.

5. You save a dog's life

Unfortunately, some shelters get to full capacity and have to put down their dogs. It's the sad truth of domesticated animals, but by adopting a shelter dog, you can help keep shelters from having to go through with putting down their dogs. Plus, you get all the benefits listed above and the dogs are usually cheaper than buying from a breeder with all the same health benefits.

If these five reasons haven't convinced you to go out and get yourself a beautiful, wonderful shelter dog, then I don't know what will.

Adopting your best friend will be the best decision you ever make.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
